I was ecstatic at finally getting The Shadow Isle by Katharine Kerr. I was really looking forward to reading the end of the Deverry epic, and finally getting to tie up most if not all of the loose ends... and now I discover that it's not the last book. It got too big and unwieldy and she split it into two, and now the last book won't be coming out until October 27th, and in hardcover to boot, so I'm going to have to wait a really long time before I can get the conclusion.

WAAAAAAH!

Life is woe, and darkness, and teh sad.

At least you didn't have your money with Earl Jones.

AAAAAUGH!

You would not BELIEVE the number of calls I'm getting from people with "information" about Earl Jones. Or with "advice" for the police.

"Why don't you issue an arrest warrant?"

"You guys really ought to question the employees."

"You should really arrest him now. Speed is of the essence."

GAH!

PEOPLE! LET THE POLICE DO THEIR GODDAMN JOB!

*pant pant*

Your reply to those phone calls...Well sir/madam a fool and their money...well you know the end....Been working in banking for 22 years and I could never understand why anyone would give their money to anyone not affiliated with a major brokerage house let alone someone who was an unlicensed financial advisor...

Was he unlicensed? I don't know a lot about the story (the media I've seen is strident, but very light on facts) but the impression I had was that he appeared on the up and up and operated for years.

He was unlicensed, although he operated this way for 25 years I double checked with the AMF and the IDA after reading the article and can confirm he was an unlicensed financial adviser....those investors did not do the minimum amount of due diligence and in my opinion just gave their monies to him blindly....typical ponzi scheme consistent returns and no losses which is impossible, even Warren Buffet had his portfolios reduced by 30% last year and this guy didn't...gotta wonder...

The opposite feeling:

I was reading through a series of books by Neal Asher recently and I had somehow convinced myself that the series was four books long. I got to the end of the fourth book and realized that that was nothing like a proper ending, so I did some research and saw that it was in fact five books long, not four. And it was in stock at the local Indigo. In paperback.

Life is sunny and bright and good.

Except when it's not.
