Okay, I caved and made a Dreamwidth Account, same username.

I'm at work, so no fancy stuff yet, and I highly doubt that I'll be leaving behind my cushy permanent LJ account with my nearly 200 free icons and such. Still, if people do bail on LJ it'll be a good way to keep in touch.

Feel free to add me, if you're in the vicinity. :)

Yeah, no worries. I have no plans to move over there or even post there, but it's a way of keeping in touch with friends who have decided that LJ has gone thoroughly over to the dark side.

"The Darkside"?

Questions:

  1. How is Dreamwidth any better than LJ? Features, policies, anything of substance? I've heard people talk about Dreamwidth but everybody seems suspiciously thin on specifics when you talk to them.

  2. "Gone over to the darkside"? In what way, exactly? Did I miss something horrible that supposedly happened to LJ or is it just the drama talking?

  3. Dreamwidth claims on their homepage that it's for artists. Are you thinking of putting your writing up over there?

1- No idea.

2- I was just being flippant. People freak out regularly about policy changes at LJ.

3- If I were doing any writing at all lately, then I might.

Seriously. I can't believe all of this "user representative" election stuff. Good heavens, it's called marketing on LJ's part, where necessary. These guys who run the company get tons of free user feedback every day and they think that there ought to be an "advisiory board"? Heh. What's funnier is the idea of getting totally wrapped up in the what happens with this thing. I've been on LJ for six years now and I'm not going to pack it up any time soon, but if you see something that's really incredible to recommend for Dreamwidth I'd enjoy hearing about it.

I missed all of that. I pay very little attention to LJ politics.

Dreamwidth is blocked for me. Access Denied. :(

Oh no! That sucks.

Still, like I said, I'm not planning on jumping ship anytime soon. Just going and looking at the new shiny. :)
