This is why I can't have nice things

So I got home today and noticed that I had a message on my phone in the kitchen. I pressed the button on the machine, and apparently that's all that the shelf on which it was sitting was waiting for. It tipped, and all the books and papers I had on it came crashing down onto the kitchen counters, right onto the dishes I had stacked there.

Total casualties: two wine glasses and one of my favourite plates.

*sigh*

So I cleaned it up and am moving on, but I am put out. Now I am going to go hide under a blanket for the rest of the evening. Maybe I'll also do some extra cleaning. Meh.

If it makes you feel any better...I no longer buy full sets of glasses. I buy only buy one or two of each style because I know for a fact I will end up breaking at least one of them if there is a full set. So you aren't the only one with breakage karma. I think I really must have been a bull in a china shop in a past life and am still making amends for the damage.

I buy 5 rather than 4 glasses / cups / mugs / plates / whatever for the same reason. That way when (not if) I break one I'll still have a "set" of 4.

What is this "full set" of which you speak? Do you mean when you buy four glasses together so that when you break three you can still have wine in something that's not a tupperware cup?
