My ex-neighbor did this constantly, though I just as constantly returned them to her with the relevant Snopes link.
Finally I told her I needed to keep my email box free for work. After the fourth time I told her that, she slacked off.
There is a segment of people who only feel important when they feel under attack, and they feel most important when they are spreading what they think is bad news.
You know, I've decided that doesn't bother me so much anymore. Because we got a BOLO on the teletype from another agency here in Oklahoma a few weeks ago. Someone had reported to them a forward she got on her cell phone. That women were being targeted for murder by gang members at Walmart. The BOLO even said that it was unknown where the forward originated because by the time the woman reporting it got it on her cell phone it had been forwarded too many times.
I read this and said, "For fuck's sake!" I mean, when a FUCKING POLICE AGENCY falls for it, well, we're done. We have reached total stupid saturation.
Also, the most recent one I got said, "Verified by Snopes" on it. It sounded hinky (I can't remember what it was now) so I checked. It was verified by Snopes alright--verified as false.
