fire_willow: I think at least your father seemed to be a bit more open minded, from what you said?
dbrune4: Whooo yeah! I mean, I suspected it in the past, but tonight pretty much proved it. She's NUTS!

dbrune4: My father, I think, suspects I'm gay, and he doesn't seem to have a problem with it. I'm not officially out to him, though.

fire_willow: I don't know if it'll make much of a difference though.
dbrune4: Problem is, if I tell him he'll tell her, and then she'll pretty much hate me.
dbrune4: In my mother's defense, she was raised to believe that there was only one way to think, and it really seems to be beyond her powers of conception to think that other people's opinions might be anything other than misguided.
dbrune4: *sigh*
firewillow: Hon. My father is a racist and a bigot. He tried to raise me that way and clearly it didn't take. Being raised to think something is no excuse to wallow in it, and I'll always stand by that one. Sorry. *hugs more* I know she's your mom, but it's no excuse. *huggles*

dbrune4: I used to think she needed psychological help. Now I'm not sure she doesn't need really strong medication too.
dbrune4: I can't believe that she raised me for 23 years and I never noticed how absolutely ravingly insane she was.
fire_willow: It's up to a person to go beyond one way of thinking. that she can is in many ways her failure - not how she was raised. Mmm. Sorry. *g* I do believe that firmly though.
fire_willow: *pets* You're growing up. And you're not in the house anymore. You're seeing things more now for seeing them less often. Stands out more. Is normal.
dbrune4: Oh, I know that, but I think she also lacked the opportunity to be exposed to other viewpoints. In that sense you and I, being raised in a more liberal society, had an advantage over her. Still, she's clung to The Old Ways quite firmly and on purpose.
dbrune4: So, partly her fault, partly circumstances, partly because she's a nutter.
dbrune4: It still hurts to know that, if she knew, she'd consider me "undesirable." She's always told me I'd make a good mother.
fire_willow: *shakes head* Do keep in mind she's likely to eat a lot of crow should you ever tell her. To her it's undesirable because it doesn't necessarily affect her directly.
fire_willow: Hence it's safe to point and say things like that.
dbrune4: Of course, being gay, my wanting children would just make me an Evil Cloner of Unnatural Babies (TM).
fire_willow: *grins* You can always ask her if she thinks you ought to pick blue or green eyes. ;D

dbrune4: Oh, are you kidding? She keeps going on and on about how *alien* they are and how she'll never understand them and how very *Chinese* they are. *growl*
dbrune4: Besides, it's just that they're "culturally different" in her words.

fire_willow: Wonder how your mom reacts when she's discriminated against. : p
dbrune4: She hates it, but even moreso because a lot of people think she's Arab because of her colouring.
dbrune4: So she goes into her "How DARE you call me an Arab!" schtick, and it all goes downhill from there.
dbrune4: Then I have to listen to her rant about it for days and weeks.
dbrune4: Or rather, I used to. I don't live there anymore.
