I am surrounded by sleeping cats. Pan-Pan is on his back with his paws in the air, turned inward so that his toes are almost touching: it's very cute, and very undignified. Gretzky is snoring. George is dead to the world, curled up in a ball. Smudge is the only one awake, sitting on the cat tree across the room.

I've been listening to Allegri's "Miserere" and browsing for new icons in [livejournal.com profile] iconsbycurtana. I now have 190 slots out of 195 filled. I am still missing a Stargate icon, because sadly she isn't part of that particular fandom. Anyone out there know of someone talented who does Stargate icons? Either SG1 or Atlantis, I'm not fussy. Both would be good, but I'll settle for either/or.

I think I may disturb this idyllic scene and go to my FLVS to see if they have the last two discs of BSG, and if they don't I may rent the LoTR trilogy and have a week-long marathon for myself. Heck, I might do that anyway.

When I get back I'll pour myself a glass of something alcoholic, and settle in with the cats to watch TV. The stupid latent headache won't quite go away, and I think I may call it an early-ish night, no matter what.

It's been a good weekend. Too short, as usual, but productive and fun: I got a fair bit of cleaning done, saw some friends, went to the seed exchange, and got the garden started. On the whole, I'm quite pleased. Sure, I could have gotten more done if I'd tried harder, but I still did pretty well.

Thanks!

I have snagged some reasonably good icons. I really have to find a good photoshop-equivalent in order to start making my own again...

Well, I'm glad you got further than you thought you would.

I'm kinda blue because I had a very short list of honey-do things and not a single one got done over the past 48 hours. The dog got taken to the park twice, but together, that doesn't add up to three hours.

:( They are things I cannot do myself, and are too small to hire strangers to do. Argh. I hate being disabled sometimes, I really do.

And I'm sure the poor soul who has to take up the slack doesn't like it much, either.

Poor rodent family. :(

Would some of it be stuff that a local kid can do for a nominal sum?

No, I've been that route with negative (not zero, actually negative) success.

All too small for a carpenter. I'm going to try rent-a-hubby or something. It's bulldinky stuff, like, "climb that two-step ladder and pull down the lantern which the painters left up there by mistake."

I mean, SMALL stuff.

Grrr.

Suck.

Kids these days have no entrepreneurial spirit. :P

If I ever get down there (chances of that are slim in the near future), then I'll happily do what I can.

Do your family or friends ever visit? Maybe you could prevail upon their good-Samaritanly impulses. :)

You're a darling, thank you!

No, I have no family (of that sort) within 800 miles. I rely on Savant. As to my own friends, oh dear. The closest friends have their own issues. Tall and skinny Arbor, who'd be great for changing lightbulbs and moving birdhouses, had a brain tumor not so long ago and can no longer use ladders any more than I can. Her balance is permanently impaired.

Friend X is a dear, but very short of time and I wouldn't ask her for the dumb stuff ("fix the toilet chain...glue down the missing tile") anyway. X and Abu Felix are both too short and too unsteady on ladders for tall-person work, and Abu terrifies me around power tools - less said about that, the better, but no way would I ask him for something that involves anything sharp and motorized. He also has no stamina for things like mulch-hauling.

Nephew is willing, bless his heart, but he's in Iraq, so no joy there until next fall. The 28-year-old son of the neighbor took my money, built my fence, and has been avoiding me for over a year about finishing the job - just about four hours of work, but he's slithery and I can't push it too hard without damaging the friendship with his mom and her husband.

I'll hire someone for the mulch if I have to, but I don't want to. This area is regrettably too affluent to produce college kids who need extra money. For legal reasons, I won't hire anyone under 18, not that there are such if I would! Savant notes with amazement that in ten years, we have never had a kid come to the door to offer to mow or shovel, which is how he and his brother got their spending money after twelve years old.

The good news:

* I found painters I really like at reasonable prices. No paint jobs right now, but later.

* I found an electrician I don't like at rapacious prices, but Savant says okay. (I'm modifying the job to cut out the more expensive and more frivolous items, but I gotta replace the electrical panel, no choice about that).

* I can advertise in the paper for a yard helper again. Yard Guy 2007 was terrific. Yard Couple 2008 were scary.

* We actually do have "rent-a-hubby" services in the area and I'm willing to give them a shot.

I don't want to sound like Eeyore! It's just so frustrating not to be able to do these things myself (and then to nag Savant and still not get them done). Before I got hurt, I was always the one my family called on for this sort of thing. Grrr.

But anyway, you're a dear. :)

Yeah, I'm really overdue for a browsing trip to the wife's icon repository, myself.

Hee! She has so many great ones, it's impossible to choose which ones I like best!
