I am at work (shh, don't tell anyone!). My morning has been filled with minor frustrations.

First, I got up about two hours later than I'd planned. This isn't as bad as it sounds, as I am working swing shift this week (10:00 to 18:00), and thus getting up at 08:00 didn't make me late for work. It still meant that I didn't get everything done that I wanted to.

Then I missed the bus, so I got to work late. When I got to work, there were already five people here, so I had to take the crappy work station where the keyboards aren't lined up with the right monitors due to lack of space, the headset jack doesn't work for the phone, so I have to tuck the phone between my ear and my shoulder, except that they've placed the phone to the left of the inconvenient computer screens, thus making it even harder to hold, and everything is off by several inches anyway. An ergonomic nightmare. Also, all the good chairs are taken, so right now my back hates me on top of my shoulder still being sore.

I think I'm going to take some Advil in a few moments and see if that helps.

My first call was from a man who spoke practically only Spanish, so I had to call the language services. That would have been fine, except that due to my stupid non-efficient work space the phone cord got tangled around the keyboard, which lifted and hit another button on the phone and flushed the call. I cannot tell you how much that sucked. Anyway, the man called back and we squared it away, but it was no fun at all.

Things have gone better in the last hour or so. Tonight is my ASL class, and I am ashamed to say that I got NO studying done in the last week. There's a test next Monday, and I'm rather worried about it. *sigh*

Okay. Back to work.

I'm really glad to know my centre isn't the only one with issues like that.

Ergonomic issues? Yeah. We keep adding computer screens & hard drives, but there's nowhere to put them, so things just pile on top of each other, resulting in repetitive strain injuries. Very annoying.

Ergonomics and things not lining up or working right, etc.

We're up to seven screens at every station and eight at two of them. (Phone, radio, CAD (2), mapping (2), phone status, and police teletype at two stations.) Two keyboards, three mice, etc.

They finally bought us new chairs... that no one likes. *eyeroll*

When I left for my weekend on Thursday, one station's phone had been out for a week, and the CAD for another was flaky at best. We'll see if it's been fixed when I get in at 1500 today.

Aww, there there now!

Yes, it all sucks.

Proud of you for taking ASL, even if you wind up taking it twice. I can fingerspell, that's all, but it has been useful a few times and I'm so glad I learned it when I was little. The only one I have trouble with is remembering the Q.

Wish I spoke good Spanish. Or even bad, incompetent Spanish. And I need to learn French before I come see you all, at least, enough to expand my vocab beyond "fromage" and "negligee."
