And another one bites the dust.

We have yet another employee gone on long-term sick leave, for an "indeterminate" length of time. I believe the word "indefinite" may have been used, as well.

So that's another 40 hours a week we need to fill in.

I am about to kiss my life goodbye. The few weekends I had free in December are now toast (it's just a matter of time before it'll be official), and it looks as though I'm going to be cancelling about 90% of my social activities for the next four months or so.

On the plus side, I'll be making a lot of money in the next little while. I won't see any of it until January, but that's not the end of the world.

That is absolutely batshit insane. Have you thought about writing the Public Security minister and your MP? Maybe one of your friends with connections to the local media could maybe sic an investigative reporter onto the dangerous levels of RCMP dispatcher understaffing that are currently threatening the public safety?

They can't actually change the hiring process. It just takes a long time to get someone top-secret security clearance, and we're losing people faster than we can replace them. Simple math, really.

They're talking stop-gap measures for the time being (maybe getting in someone from Ottawa to help), and with any luck we'll be getting new hires sometime in May.

We'll miss you!

Please let us know if there's anything we can do to make life easier for you, though nothing really springs to mind at the moment.

Set crock pots on stun!

...Although seriously, Phnee, once you work through your temporary money issues, if you don't have a crock pot already, it would be an excellent investment. It will save you so much time cooking, even doing stuff in big batches, if you can just throw crap in a pot before you leave and come home to dinner for the next week. There are tons of great simple recipes out there for all kinds of stuff.

This sucks.

Yeah, the money's nice but it does not help if you can't enjoy it :)

Hang in there. This is necessity of course, but do not let the old Phnee come back out :)
