A different viewpoint

Good morning, humans.
Gretzky here. Normally Mama would be posting, but she's still asleep, for reasons I haven't been able to fathom. When I tried waking her earlier she mumbled some sort of curse at me and the rest of my companions for keeping her up all night by randomly knocking things off her night table. I'm sure I have no idea what she's talking about. For one thing, I don't at all understand this mania she has of sleeping all night when she could be up and patting me.
I've been reading some of her past entries (I don't usually bother, but since I have control over the computer today, I thought: Why not?), and it appears you have been grossly misled: the move has not gone well at all. I will have you know that this place is completely different from the last one, and that it smells wrong. I am quite sure Other Cats have been here before us. It has taken over a week of painstaking work to get it to smell even remotely normal. Routines have been viciously dismantled for the past two weeks, too, and of course my other companions aren't making this any easier on me by constantly talking about it. I keep trying to tell them that it's no use talking to Mama about this sort of thing: she just pretends she doesn't understand what we're saying, and does her own thing.
There are large new white things in the place since Friday, and one of them makes noise. Mama hasn't touched the other one yet, but I have a feeling that it, too, will end up making noise I don't like. The other, smaller white thing makes noise too, but I don't find it so bad: mostly it takes up valuable windowsill space, which I am less than happy about. That reminds me: the one good thing about this place is that there are extra-deep windowsills in the basement to sit on. Mama has said something about sewing together something that we can sit on. It's about time she started thinking of us!
On a more positive note, Mama has been around more for the past two weeks, so there have been pats and cuddles. That's always nice. Still, she went off into the People Closet for two whole days this weekend, and she's been bringing people over. Just last week there was a veritable invasion, the likes of which haven't been seen around this place since 2006. Mama locked us up in the bathroom in the old place, so I didn't get to see the people much, but it was very inconvenient. Then once the people left, we all got moved into this place. Then, almost every day last week that older woman came in who always moves things around and fills the place with weird smells. Mama seems to like her company for some reason, but I for one don't enjoy the interruption. Then on Friday there was a younger woman who stopped by for a little while, but she didn't so much as offer a scritch behind the ears, no matter how hard I hinted!
All in all, dear humans, it has been a very trying two weeks. I think I may go take another nap now.

Date: 2008-09-08 02:54 pm (UTC)At least the first small human knows how to give me my food. I guess they can have their uses.
I hear you on the move thing. It took me a while to get used to the new place...

Me must not laugh too hard!!
Date: 2008-09-08 04:41 pm (UTC)[LMAO] Oh boy!!! :D I'm sorry I'm gonna break the theme (I have no pet to share his/her pain), but I had to get a hold on myself so as not to erupt in laughter at my office in the midst of the sociology department! ;))

Date: 2008-09-08 06:43 pm (UTC)Well, hello, Gretzky, how very handsome you are!
I am completely dumbfounded as to why these strange women would come to your house and not pet you. This is not right.
The deep windowsills are tremendously right and I hope Mama gets her act together to make some sweet, deep cushions for you in some luxuriant fabric suitable to your status as lord of this new domain.
A revolution always disrupts one's peace, but in time, once everything smells right and settles into place, you'll feel more serene. The evidence of Other Cats Before will fade away, away, away, and this new realm will start to smell as it ought (except on when the Weird Smells Lady comes).
Congratulations, Rex Gretz!

Date: 2008-09-08 09:19 pm (UTC)I went to my dad's today and that female cat that hangs around his house had more kittens (which I knew earlier than this) and they are--well, I don't know how old they are, but they walk and are starting to eat kitty food as opposed to nursing all the time. Not weaned yet, though. Anyway, they are so, so cute and the runt decided he liked me (I checked, definitely a he.) I wanted to take them all home, including the mom. Punkin would not like that, though. I wish you could come see them.
