Today's realization is that everything is closed on Labour Day. I would have known this, normally, except that my schedule is so damned weird that I kind of forgot it was a national holiday.

Gah. So much for furniture and appliance shopping today. I am going to try and reserve a car for tomorrow afternoon and maybe get all my stuff done then.

In the meantime, my uncle has lent me his drill, so I will be installing curtain rods tonight. I was also going to install towel racks in the bathroom (apparently I'm the only one in this building who uses towel racks: what on earth do other people hang their towels on?), but Canadian Tire was also closed (shock!) so I couldn't purchase any.

Later this afternoon I am going to acquire a stove from toughlovemuse, who is a pearl among women, and of course chibipunkdemon who is co-owner of the stove at present.

I really hope I can get a car for tomorrow. It would really suck if I couldn't get anything done in my week off work.

I should do some unpacking before I go off to get my U-Haul truck.

I also just picked five really awesome tomatoes from the garden. Just like that. :D

Would have been at S&C's but my job reached out a fetid, slime-dripping, squamous, rugose tentacle and hauled me back into the pit.

We're trying to figure out our schedule for the next month or so; will advise soonest.

It's so totally different here and there. All the stores are open today (except maybe some mom and pop type stores) because all the rest of the people are off work and want to shop.

Which I'm happy for, since it's my regular day off and I need to go grocery shopping so I can make stuff to take to work this week.

In Québec we take our national holidays very seriously: people get cranky when they don't get their day off. I think there are grocery stores that are open, though.

People here get cranky when they don't get to shop and there are no holiday inspired sales.

I'd rather have the day off. Unfortunately, whether or not stores are open has no affect on whether or not I work. :(

Seriously, can't the bad guys just take a day off every now and then?

And fire, too. Fire has to take a day off on the same day as the bad guys.

I don't answer for medical, but I guess I'll ask the serious illnesses and injuries to take a day off, too, to show solidarity with my EMD brethren.

I'm fairly sure some of the furniture and appliance places are having tent sales today but not positive. Did you look online?
