Slept all of Monday. Was rather sleep-deprived after a whole weekend of, well, little to no sleep. So caught up a bit on Monday.

Dinner with the parental units, who spent a great deal of time at dinner lamenting the fact that they hadn't seen me in so long. I pointed out that 1) I had breakfast with them last Sunday (sacrificing four hours of sleep to the endeavour, no less), and 2) they were the ones who went to France for a month. Thus, no daughterly sympathy. :)

Spent almost all of yesterday and today with the spectacular [livejournal.com profile] luvenditti, catching up, watching movies, chatting, and making food. She and I (mostly she) made the most wonderful, mouth-watering pork with apples and fennel recipe ever. I just about died it was so good. Took the recipe home, and will likely be cooking it when I invite my parents to dinner in the new place.

Bought a "starter kit" of moving boxes and tape and a tape dispenser so that I can get a start on packing. Mostly I want to see how many books fit into various boxes, and how heavy/transportable the whole thing will be. We're moving in exactly one month, so I have a lot of preparing to do.

Back to work tomorrow, then I have the weekend off. Then work again, without reprieve until my vacation the last week of August. Not really looking forward to all that work, but what can you do? My co-workers have been teasing me about being able to pay my house cash by the end of the year. I wish. ;)

If I were moving downstairs, I wouldn't be packing anything. i'd have two boxes. Fill, carry down, dump, carry up, refill...

I know because I have made such a move before. That's what I did moving to Chagrin from Kent too. Just filled and emptied the car. Would that work for you?

I need to pack my books, clothes, and all the dishes and stuff. People will be helping me move, and I wish this to be as painless for them as possible. :)

The better I'm packed, the faster the move will be.

My father is going to be helping me build custom bookshelves for the living room, which means that until he and I get the time to do it, my books have to live somewhere relatively safe. Another reason for good packing.

So, in answer to your question: yes, it could work for me. However, I am opting for a slightly more prep-intensive approach to facilitate things on actual moving day.

I would also suggest (from recent experience) that it's so worth it if you have a little extra money to spend on those blue (or green, brown or even pink) rubber maid storage box/buckets available for 5-6 bucks each at Walmart/Zellers/Canadian Tire.

They are sturdy, stackable, have handles, completely re-useable and are AMAZING to store stuff once you're done moving. I went a little overboard and bought tons in the last 6 months and now I'm really glad to still have them as opposed to normal boxes.

And failed to post it here! Cruel you, cruel!

It's more important that you feed my porklust than pack, sleep, or clean house. And I love fennel!

I'll post it later if she doesn't beat me to it.

[livejournal.com profile] luvenditti has posted the incredibly nummy pork recipe here: http://community.livejournal.com/recipe_trade/28757.html

I encourage you and/or Savant to join up with us. We're a small, not-too-active community, so there's no danger of overwhelming your flist, but we always welcome new members and new ideas. :)

AND she (she?) posted it directly in my LJ! And I left her a thankyou.

I sent your link to Savant; he might like to hang out with fellow foodies.

Moi, I do not cook. Non non non.

You can probably get away with not putting it in the oven, to be honest, if you cover and simmer it for a while.

Still no oven, huh?

Oh, and would you mind if I friended you? I hear so much about you from [livejournal.com profile] ankhorite that it would be nice to get some of it from the horse's mouth, as it were. :)

Yeah, the oven is probably going on hold until the end of August, we have an awfully full schedule coming up and I wouldn't have the chance to use it before then anyway... *sigh* Someday we'll get one :)

Please, I'll friend you back if that's cool with you. I'm only kinda sorta' on LJ these days, there's bursts of comments and posts, then quiet for a week unless [livejournal.com profile] ankhorite pokes me to look at a particular entry (as was the case on this one...) My recipes and stuff are on the general filter, there's a geeky filter to spare the people on my flist who aren't so inclined -- if you want on it, let me know.

Huzzah!

I wish to be on the geeky filter, absolutely. I am a geek in many (but not all) ways, and enjoy reading about that sort of stuff.

Like I said, the recipe doesn't actually require an oven: we just stuck it in the oven while we were waiting for other things to cook. You can totally have your pork and eat it too. :)
