At this rate I may be able to buy my house a couple years early. ;)

I had a very short night. Got off work at 23:00 and was back here at 06:30 this morning. Four-odd hours of sleep. I have a twelve-hour shift today (including a meeting this afternoon which may well take up three hours) and will be pulling twelve hour shifts until Sunday evening. I get Monday off, and then I'm back to work on Tuesday.

Someone please remind me that I like my job. ;)

I am utterly disheartened by the state of my apartment. It's as though having the place messy sucks away my energy to do anything else. I have to get my act together and find some time (and energy) to get it presentable again, and this before June 1st, as that's when I'm leaving the country for a week.

I will have a grand total of *one* free weekend in which to get my place in order before that happens. Oh God. I need to get my ass in gear.

If you're making a bunch of overtime money, can you afford to hire a cleaning service? (Then again, I guess they wouldn't know where all your stuff goes...)

I did that once, and it felt kind of weird, having someone else cleaning up my space. In theory, it's a great idea. In practice, I get all sorts of hover-y and control-freak-y.

you need a 50's stepford wife.

I totally do. I should marry one and have her be a kept woman. She would wash my floors and have dinner ready on the table for me when I get home, and bring me my slippers.

Awesome.

If I find a store with a bunch in stock, I'll let you know.

Hang in there

I know what it's like to deal with a mess (I'm a slob too). Hang in there.

I wish I had advice. Someone suggested a cleaning service, but I've always been kind of weirded out by the thought myself.

So far what has worked (though certainly not that well, its still a work in progress) is just picking a set amount of time (like 45 minutes) and choosing an area and just doing that, then go take it easy. That way, if I ONLY do that 45 minutes, I'll have accomplished something...however, what ends up happening is that I get into it and do more (sometimes a little, sometimes a lot) and it helps.

Heh. Thanks. That's generally the system I use (or a similar one) when I actually get my act together enough to start cleaning. Once I start, it's not so difficult to keep going.

That's always the biggest hurdle, starting.

I was doing pretty good after Xmas (to be fair, J did most of the heavy duty cleaning) but now with J moving in her stuff, the house is a tad chaotic. Should be fixed by the weekend (or at least acceptably improved)

Heh. I wish I could say the same for mine. I was doing okay in February/March, but from the end of March to now it's been all overtime, all the time, and I have barely touched the place.
