Off to Tarasmas.

Busy busy busy.

The problem with working so much (Only one problem? Yes. Only one.) is that I have to cram a lot of things and events into a very short space of time. Then I get to my work week even more exhausted, and the cycle continues.

Tarasmas was awesome, as ever. I got to play a truly villainous villain. I hammed it up and cackled maniacally and had a fabulous time.

Spent the night at BorderCrossing's. She is something of a night owl, and she kept talking until about 03:00, which was wonderful to listen to, except that part of my brain kept going "Ohmygodit'slateandI'mtiredandIwanttosleep!" and so I kept losing bits of the conversation (woefully one-sided, I am ashamed to say) and kind of drifting off until she took pity on me and we went to sleep.

She made me a fabulous breakfast of a croissant and jam (artfully placed in a shot glass on the plate) with slices of cheese and scrambled eggs and vanilla yoghurt with bananas and blueberries. There was also tea and orange juice (I nearly typoed that as "tea and oranges," as in "And she feeds you tea and oranges that come all the way from China," and God I'm a dork). Delicious.

I spent the rest of the day cooking and chatting with [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse and [livejournal.com profile] luvenditti. We had a blast, cooked up a storm, and generally caught up and had a grand old time.

All too soon it was time to come home, and I am dead on my feet. I kid you not. Very, very dead. I have to go to bed *rightnow* because I have to be up again in six and a half hours to go to work.

There aren't enough hours in the day, and not enough days in the week. I love having such a full life, but at the same time, I always feel as though I'm constantly running to catch up with myself.

I am crazy-busy these days. My bookcases still aren't built, and I haven't gone to the upstairs apartment to clear out the rest of my stuff. There isn't that much left, which is why I've been putting it off. I still haven't hooked up my washing machine either. Since I do my laundry upstairs, you'd think I'd be able to take my stuff down at the same time, but you'd be underestimating my laziness. ;)

I had brunch with BorderCrossing and her friend today, which was lots of fun. I bicycled there, since it was on Notre-Dame and thus not super far. It was nice to get back in the saddle, although in retrospect it was a mistake to wear my windbreaker: I was way too warm and had to take it off. If I can muster the energy on Monday, I'm going to try to start biking to work again. The weather is really perfect for it.

BorderCrossing took me to a nearby park afterward, and we played frisbee. Frisbee is apparently the only game she likes, so I'm happy to play it with her. It's a bit weird, dating someone who really doesn't like games (she even used the word "hate" at one point!), but she's not averse to my continuing my own gaming lifestyle, so I guess it's okay overall.

I still suck as much at frisbee as I remembered, but it was still fun, and by the end I was mostly able to get it to go roughly in the right direction (instead of at right angles to said direction, which is my specialty). I took a very undignified tumble at one point when I twisted at an odd angle trying to pick the frisbee out of the air. Embarrassing, but not painful and no permanent damage was done.

I am currently doing laundry, and have tricked myself into bringing down my worm bin and set it on the outside balcony. My worms have all mysteriously disappeared, although the earth inside is looking pretty moist and healthy. I am mystified. Perhaps they died of starvation, although I thought they could survive for a decent amount of time on the nutrients in the soil. *shrug* I've dumped some extra food in there in the form of banana peels and eggshells from last week's banana bread, and with any luck the whole thing will revive.

My other goal for today is to get the kitchen cleaned up. I haven't been home much this week, and when I have been home dishes have been the last thing on my mind. I have no dishwasher soap yet (I should really remedy that) so I'm still washing things by hand. Maybe I'll go to the dépanneur and see if there's soap there: that would certainly reduce my workload, supposing I can figure out how to use the dishwasher.

After all this I have to shower and get ready for dinner and then Tarasmas. I am taking BorderCrossing and giving her an initiation by fire to my friends. ;) I am confident that she'll be fine, though. Anyone who can't take my friends probably shouldn't be dating me.

Okay, to work.

I haven't been posting much of substance here lately. The problem with having tons of stuff to post about is that I rarely have the time or energy to actually post any of it.

Thanksgiving! )

Okay, now Tarasmas )

I've been off work for a week. I don't actually feel like anything has happened, although not working for a week has thoroughly mangled my sleeping patterns. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, for some major financial cataclysm to occur to stress me out completely.

The next big thing to write about is last night's Thursday game. I've been waiting for about five years to be in on one of the infamous Thursday games, and last night I finally got my chance. Sadly, I'm late for a lunch appointment with the Paternal Unit, and I won't be back at the computer until tomorrow, so it'll have to wait. Suffice it to say, for now, that the game rocked hardcore, especially getting some "real" phone calls from both [livejournal.com profile] karine and [livejournal.com profile] shenlo playing NPCs in the game. It was very awesome. Thanks guys! You really added to the tone of the game.

It's Election Day in Canada. Canadians, go vote! With any luck, it won't turn out to be a giant pile of suck.

At worst, we'll just have another election in eighteen months. Canada isn't very good with coalition governments, it would seem.

Weekend was quiet. Very quiet. Band practice went well, although we missed our saxophone player, who was waylaid by the inadequacy of our city's snow-removal equipment and the general incompetency of policy-makers who decide when the roads get de-iced.

Went home Saturday afternoon, wrote a post for Bluebook, and then the plan was to have dinner with my parents after doing a bit of cleaning. Instead what happened was a little "nap" that lasted all night. Whoops. Guess I needed the sleep.

Was up at 8am on Sunday and bopped over to my parents' place for breakfast. Only I missed my father by a few minutes, since he was off to South America for the week. Whoops again. I've given up on keeping track of all his trips. So I had breakfast with my mother, and then succumbed to inertia and stayed with her all day.

Wrote another post for Bluebook with [livejournal.com profile] joane, and watched television, partly with my mother and partly without. Rediscovered Earth 2 re-running on Space. Forgot how good that show was. Watched a re-run of The Dead Zone, which I'd already seen three times before due to that weird law that says that whenever you catch a show you only see rarely, they're always showing the same episode. Luckily it was a good episode, so I didn't mind watching it again.

Brand-new episode of Smallville, which it takes a lot of guts to admit I watch. ;) It's sadly not getting much better with time, but it's holding its own. Mostly I watch it for Clark Kent's very very blue eyes. It ought to be illegal for people to have eyes that beautiful. Ahem.

Turned my mother onto Cold Case Files. Neither one of us are likely to become devoted to the show, but it's nice to watch it every now and then. If I had cable at home, I'd probably watch NCIS more regularly, too.

Did a little bit of writing, too. Not nearly as much as I had planned, but my plans were mostly thwarted by the "nap" on Saturday. I got my first instalment of Conflation finished, and worked a fair bit on the play for Capricornucopia. Unfortunately, the play still needs a lot of work. I'm meeting up with my fellow conspirators tonight, and we shall see what we can do about it.

I'm taking heart from the fact that t! was able to write three plays in less than 48 hours for the last Tarasmas. Since we're several people collaborating on the same project, it's taking a bit longer to coordinate, but I suspect it will be done in good time. Then there will be organising of minor but necessary props, food, drink, and so forth.

So, Tarasmas was, predictably, a resounding success.

I got onstage despite all my misguivings, and people actually heard me, which was a relief. I don't project well, as a rule. I resurrected my truly bad Italian accent for the role of Cornella, the housekeeper in a Victorian murder mystery, and brandished a feather duster at people. [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter was a big hit as the heroine of the mystery, and [livejournal.com profile] luvenditti and a non-LJ user named A. kept the crowd in stitches with their mock-Southern accents. ("Ah sense something terrible has happened he-ah!")

Of course, Tarasmas would not be Tarasmas without a Dickens Carter performance, in which [livejournal.com profile] talyesin once again played the title role. [livejournal.com profile] sandman7 reprised his role as the nefarious (nefalious?) Rollins, err, Lawrence, the evil Chinese overlord with the really awful accent.

I don't think I've laughed that hard since last year at Tarasmas. For reasons I didn't catch because I was laughing too hard, Lawrence at one point began quoting "Jabberwocky." At that moment, I think I stopped breathing for about a minute.

"'Twas blirig, and the srithy toves
Did gyle and gimbre in the wabe;
Arr mimsy were the bologoves,
And the mome laths outglabe..."

Yeah. It was awesome. [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse played Porry, I mean Polly Avery, and I was rather pleased that she married Carter, although secretly I was sort of rooting for the laconic cop.

"So when she asks if we'll have the usual I say 'yes' and he just nods."

[livejournal.com profile] sorceror was brilliant as an army of robots who talked like Anglican cantors, and of course [livejournal.com profile] jdhobbes was suitably swashbuckly as Captain Caspian Courageous, Corsair of the Cosmos! There were princesses in distress, dastardly villains, a feline sidekick ("Miaow."), a lecherous duke, a beautiful and deadly heroine, and, of course, a Legendary Singing Sword. ("What, you were expecting a glaive guisarme?")

The puns flew thick and fast, and I don't think I stopped laughing after the first punchline of the evening. There was booze, there was food.

Good company, good friends, and a talented scriptwriter. Good times.

Oh, and an informal "talk like Lawrence" contest, in which [livejournal.com profile] miseri and I broke people's brains by singing tunes from Fiddler on the Roof.

"Tladition!"

"Wondel of wondels, milacre of milacres, God took the Tayrol by the hand and red him to the Plomised Rand!"

"Mem'lies, arr arone in the moonright..."

Etc.

And, because I didn't look at my computer yesterday, I have to wish a belated Happy Birthday! to [livejournal.com profile] ai731. Huzzah!

Happy Tarasmas, everyone!
