I am having a morning that is filled with "Woe, I am failing at everything in life!"

This is probably due to the fact that I've had less than four hours of sleep. Combined with the bad sleep from yesterday and the almost no sleep from the night before, I'm guessing the cumulative effects are being hard on my psyche.

Yes, I know, cry moar, Phnee.

The project isn't finished. Still going to try to finish it in time. I'll probably end up working on it tonight after everyone is in bed, given the rate at which it's been going. I'm only going to get home around 8:00pm anyway, since I finish work at 6:00pm and have to drive back to Montreal. That'll give me just enough time to put away my things, put tags on the presents, and get back to work on the project.

I need a time-turner. Hermione was totally off-base with how she used hers. The proper use for a time-turner is to get infinite amounts of sleep. :P

Work looks to be busy today, so this is a fly-by post.

I am very, very tired. Spent the night before last up with a sick Bean for about an hour, and slept very poorly the rest of the time. Ended up getting up at 6am to work on the Soopar Seekrit Prodgikt, then made breakfast, got dressed and went outside to shovel. Finished shovelling, came back in to pack and have lunch, then left for Ottawa for work in the sleet and snow and slush, which added an extra hour or so to my travel time. Good thing the neighbour bailed me out with his snowblower--the snow removal company came about five hours after I called to tell them I needed to leave at noon (they came around 4pm, I was told). I am not overly impressed, given that the girl I talked to gave me the impression she would be sending someone quite soon. I guess our definitions of "soon" differ considerably.

Got the rest of my shopping done (groceries and a couple of last-minute Christmas additions) in spite of holiday crowds and very cranky people. I went out of my way to be extra nice to the cashiers and other store employees because this must be the very worst time of the year for them, and I figured they could use at least one customer who wasn't being a tool, even though I was feeling quite out of sorts.

Got home, had a quick dinner, then realised I had forgotten the power cable to the laptop in Montreal, as previously stated. So I decided "fuck it" and went to bed at eight. Since I get up at 4am to go to work, that gets me eight hours of sleep. I slept badly again, though not as badly as the night before. Apparently the days when I used to be able to sleep well are gone, vanished practically overnight. I am sad about this, because I never get enough sleep as it is (due to the nature of my work), so the only thing saving me was the fact that when I did sleep, I got really good quality sleep. I figure now it's only a matter of time before this new facet of sleep deprivation catches up to me and I'll either get really really sick or I'll have some sort of horrible accident because my brain was too fogged to react in time. *sigh*

Yesterday's time-suck of a day meant almost no work on the Soopar Seekrit Prodgikt. I am behind as all hell, and if I have to gift it still on the needles I will cry.

[livejournal.com profile] pdaughter spent most of the day in the basement renovating the giant Barbie house she has as a surprise Christmas present for Bean. It looks glorious, but she had to twist herself into pretzels for a lot of it, and I think she's paying for it now. When it's all done there will likely be pictures. Stay tuned!

I have been working away on the Soopar Seekrit Prodgikt. [livejournal.com profile] pdaughter is being a fantastically understanding girlfriend and is making a point of not looking whenever I sneak off to work on it for a while.

I spent most of today with Bean. We wrapped presents. Mostly it involved him putting scotch tape on everything except the presents (himself, the floor, the sofa, the dog on one notable occasion), wandering off between every piece of tape we applied, unravelling three entire spools of ribbon, opening the fridge and pulling out a bunch of stuff before I could get there to stop him, crawling under the dining room table, and generally being very distracted/not focussed on the task at hand. Apparently he was much better when he and his mother wrapped presents together last week.

I did manage to get some knitting done. It went a lot like this: knit 1 row, chase after Bean; knit 1 row, put on a DVD for Bean; knit 1 row, chase after Bean; knit 1 row, put on a different DVD for Bean; knit 1 row, chase after Bean; knit 1 row, get Bean a snack; knit 1 row, rescue Bean's snack from the dog; etc. I'm kind of impressed at the progress I made in light of that. ;)

I didn't get any of the chores done today that I wanted, except for the dishes. I never got around to getting outside to shovel, so that will have to be done first thing tomorrow. I'm heading to Ottawa for two days, then driving back just so I can be here Christmas morning before returning to my job in the afternoon. It's going to be a long, tiring week.

At least I got a fair bit done while I was home. Not as much as I would have liked, but the bathroom and kitchen both got deep-cleaned (including behind the stove), all the presents are wrapped, and things are generally in order. Next week, when I'm back from work, I'm going to turn my attention to the bedroom and putting all my books in order. After that, in the New Year, I will make a point of organising all the disorganised crap I have in the basement.

Okay. Back to my knitting. Wish me luck!

The bread maker is on its last legs. The paddles consistently come loose, the crust doesn't bake according to instructions (it's far too dark, bordering sometimes on burnt), and the bread has not risen correctly the last two times in spite of the yeast being fine and everything else being up to standard.

Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] pdaughter has one of her own, so we won't be without bread. I am just sad, for this machine served me faithfully for nearly eight years before coming to the end of its life. I wish it had lasted a bit longer, to be perfectly frank, but eight years isn't too bad, all things considered.

Things are super busy at Casa Phnee & [livejournal.com profile] pdaughter as we prepare for Christmas, so I expect there will be shorter posts like this one until I get a bit more time to pull my thoughts together. Since I'm resolved not to have the computer on when I have other things to do and when the family is home, I've had fewer opportunities to simply sit and type away in the LJ post screen. Sunday I go back to Ottawa, which means there will be a bit more time to spend with the computer. So far, not being on the computer as much is really paying off, so I'm hoping to stick with the new program.

I am trying desperately to finish a Soopar Seekrit Prodgikt before Christmas, but I am rapidly running out of time. /o\ Wish me luck!

Tomorrow Bean and I will be wrapping presents together. I hope it goes well! Fingers crossed.

See you on the flip side!
