Dear Migraine Fairy,

I understand that you like repeat customers. They mean good business. I understand that I'm one of your best clients, too. However, three migraines in ten days is a little much. Especially since you left me alone for so long. I can only conclude that you're making up for lost time. So, with all due respect, could you spread the lovin' out a little? Seriously, I don't mind the migraines (much), so long as they don't come every three days and last two days each.

No love,

Me

Can I be nosy and ask what the something worse was? My reason is not terribly good. I have a character in my NaNoWriMo novel who's been having persistent migraines and she's just about to find out that its something much worse. The question is what. I've been trying to research what sorts of severe medical conditions can be signaled by migraines, but I haven't had much luck.

It was a brain tumor. Basically she held off seeing a doctor about the migraines until she was loosing parts of conversations (blacking out for a few seconds). By the time she got it checked out it was at level 3. If I remember correctly there are 4 levels, and at level 4 you're screwed. At level 3, you're nearly screwed. I think the tumor was the size of a golf ball and had started to put out... roots I guess would be the best word for it. It's really hard to get out of the system by the time it's spread like that. So I think if you want your character to survive, make her discover it at level 1 or 2 so it's at least operable and treatable.
(You can understand why I'm concerned, right Mousme?)

Yup, but I have it on good (medical) authority that I don't have anything wrong with me that pills and several hours of sleep, darkness and quiet won't cure. :)

Thanks for your concern, though. 'Tis appreciated.
