I hate the butterflies. I hate them with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns. I can't get past six butterflies in the first section, and I don't think I've even made it to four in the second. The first one is all the more frustrating because I run out of time even when I don't hit any red butterflies. ARGH!

#@$&ing butterflies!

Also, the chocobo races are evil. EVIL!

I'm tempted to believe that all the people who say they've managed these side quests are lying like cheap rugs, but the more rational part of me (the one that has prevented me from throwing my controller at the wall out of frustration, for instance) insists that it must be possible.

As things stand right now, I have five of the seven celestial weapons, and three of them are fully charged. I expect that I should be able to fully charge at least once more. After that come the finicky and/or hard and/or "Dear God I Have To Play How Much Blitzball?" challenges to get all three elements for the Celestial Weapons.

To recap my progress, for those of you who A) know what I'm talking about, and B) actually care (I realize that this may be a grand total of three or four people), here's what I've managed:

1- Tidus

I have the Sun Crest. It wasn't hard to get. The Chocobo races, however, are a bitch. So that's all I have. No Sun Sigil, and no Caladbolg (why, oh why did they name it after a Celtic myth? Why?)

2- Yuna

I have all three elements, and thus Nirvana is fully charged. Yay for 1MP cost!

3- Auron

I have all three elements there too, so Masamune is fully charged. Yay!

4- Kimahri

I have the Spirit Lance and the Saturn Crest. #@$&ing butterflies!

5- Wakka

I have the Jupiter Crest. Everything else is Blitzball, which I've studiously ignored throughout this game. I haven't decided yet if I have the patience to play 250+ games *and* try to win them all. I lost ignominiously the only time I played.

6- Lulu

Fully-charged Onion Knight! Yay! (Also, I can't help but think of George R. R. Martin whenever I see the term)

7- Rikku

I have Godshand and the Mercury Crest. I am considering taking a break from the butterflies to go try the Cactuar challenge. From what I understand it's not nearly as hard as the butterflies or the chocobo racing.

Hey, does anyone remember if you can get *out* of the inside of Sin (to complete the training area challenge) or does that automatically bring on the final showdown?

Anyway, yeah. Totally obsessed, here. :)

You can easily leave sin. No problem.

The chocobo races are doable, you just keep doing it. I recomend having something to break or punch on standby.

As for the butterflies, I believe that there are some butterflies which you can't always see because they are behind trees and stuff. Try spending a couple of tries to locate them all.

Blitzball is actually the only minigame I enjoyed. I only started it to get Wakka's weapon, but got the hang of it easily. You only really need to get some good players and then it's a piece of cake.

There really is no way to get around Blitz Ball and Chokobo Races just like Leveling Up your Characters to get them fit to finish Final Fantasy... Practice makes Perfect. The more you do it, the better you are going to get.

For Blitz Ball, do you know how to recruit GOOD players? (Everytime you meet a person, press Square instead of X to find out if they are a Blitz Ball Player. At first, all you get is how much they cost in salary... but the more Blitz Ball you have played, the more recruiting information you can get as you go on...)

Tidus needs to learn Jecht Shot. (Then Jecht Shot 2.) Tidus is The Man. When you have developped him with all of the Techniques, he will lead the way to all of your victories. In the first games you play: Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass a lot. Pass some more. And then Pass. (Eventually, take a shot with Tidus.) The First Teams you face usually only have one or two good key players that if you mark well, you will be able to neutralize and get past. And when you aim to shoot with Tidus, shoot to the Left side of the net. (Don't ask. But most goalies defend the right side better than the Left.)

(My Blitz Ball wasn't so great... but with practice, I got through. And some help from a friend.)

For the Chokobo Races, I like Gats insight on the matter. I know you don't prone violence on the regular basis (*Cough*) but you need to find a Punching Bag to express your anger on the Chokobo or you will be hurling PS2 Controllers through your TV screen more often than you would like...

My only advice is to use the Arrows (The "D-Pad") instead of the Analog stick. I find it gives you a little more control and it seems a little easier to use, in general. For example, moving Left to Right (Right to Left) a little faster.

My blitzball got a lot easier once I realize that Jecht shot takes out a couple of defenders for you :)

Also Brother is The Man. Once I got him, I was murdering other teams.

I agree that the Butterfly Game is evil. I never managed it, and at the end made Kimahri a custom weapon with the Break Damage Limit ability. &^$#^ butterflies.

The Cactuar game is time-consuming, but easy, and well worth it. Rikku become a real powerhouse with the fully-upgraded Godhand. Look up on gamefaqs.com what do to.
