mousmeI'm no longer allowed to watch shows late at night, especially not if they involve sad father-daughter scenes. The daddy's girl in me gets all tied up in knots, and it's not good for me. :P
In other words: Hour 15? Gah!
And I was right. They both did something Stupidly Heroic. Poor Mason.
I assume they did their research, and being four minutes away (as the plane flies) from ground zero of a nuclear explosion is enough not to die in a spectacular way or die of radiation poisoning or fallout. :::hoists disbelief into suspension:::
Kim gets stupider with every hour that passes. However, the scene between her and Jack as he's flying the plane? Tore my heart out, threw it on the ground and stomped on it for a while. Then it picked it up, lobbed it into the air and let it come crashing down, and stomped on it some more for good measure. Evil, evil writers.
Also, the music is getting less subtle. That's not necessarily bad, but I prefer subtle music to "this-is-what-you-should-be-feeling" music. I loved Season 1, in which the score was understated but did everything right to enhance the urgency and tension of the plot. The climax of Hour 15 did not need a high, pure soprano, to tell us that we were watching something awe-inspiring and incomprensible on a human scale, one of the worst events the human mind has been able to come up with since the middle of the twentieth century. It was effective, don't get me wrong, but it sort of clubbed you over the head with: "OMG this is dramatic! Pay attention!" as though the viewer might have somehow gotten distracted.
I think I should just rename this LJ the "All 24, All The Time" Journal. :P
