Only in Quebec
Sep. 30th, 2005 06:51 pmThe main contender for party leadership (in the opposition) is accused of being a cocaine addict. He admits it, and his popularity goes up.
:::shakes head in disbelief:::
Given how unpopular the guys currently in power are, I have this sinking feeling we're going to have a cocaine addict running the province. The worst part is that I'm really not sure it would be all that much worse than what we've had for the last ten years or so.
:::sigh:::

Date: 2005-10-01 01:13 am (UTC)The popularity rose because, for one thing, people saw his confession as honesty; what most people DON'T know is that he only admitted it after being questionned about it, refusing to answer, storming out of conferences and eventually (and reluctantly, trying to minimise the number of times and the age he was when he's done it) fessing up. Sound bites came back as "Boisclair admits to having used cocaine" and people who don't otherwise follow the news immediately thought, "Oh, like those politicians who admit to having taken pot when they were young, people don't give them a break when it's all part of the past, we should support him for being honest, poor guy, he made a mistake, etc".
It pisses me off. Then again, I'm never voting PQ anyways, so it won't be my fault if we have a cocaine addict as Prime Minister.
