I am listening to Ariel Ramirez' Misa Criolla. This one features Jose Carreras, and I really rather like it, although many of its critics say that his voice overpowers the rest of the music. I'm not convinced. The man is more than capable of subtlety, of modulating his tone enough to suit the rest of the score.

I've had a horrid earache since last Thursday, but it seems to be abating now, for which I am, accordingly, quite grateful. I was worried that I'd have to haul my sorry self to a clinic to make sure it wasn't an infection. But in my experience (and I had *lots* as a child), ear infections generally increase in pain if not treated, and while this got pretty bad on Saturday and Sunday, today it was all but imperceptible. Yay!

Okay, enough with that particularly mundane bit of news.

I bought my mother some fat white cyclamens for Mother's Day. They're her favourite, and looking back at last year, I see that I did the exact same thing. Well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, I always say. She loved them, and I found a great little place on Wellington that's much cheaper than the places where she usually goes. The man in the shop was rather rude, but it was more in a quaint-crusty-old-gardener way, which somehow made it easier to take. He also knows his stuff when it comes to flowers, from the brief conversation I had with him.

Speaking of plants, I am growing a spider plant at work. This was mostly an accident. I don't really have a green thumb, but I'm giving it a shot. One of the managers, who has the same initials as me, which makes things a bit confusing, was moving her office, and accidentally ripped off part of her large spider plant. On a whim I stuck it in a glass of water, and I've been changing the water every two days or so. I'll be damned if the little thing hasn't gone and sprouted roots an inch long! So I'll be potting it this week and praying for the best.

I should probably turn my hanging plant, or else it'll all grow on one side.

Who knew I actually knew anything at all about plants? My mother must have rubbed off on me at some point without my noticing it.

I think I'll try to call it an early night tonight. Which reminds me, I need to feed the cats, lest they try to eat me in my sleep.
