mousme: Two open books, one lying on top of the other at an angle (Books)

I bought books today. Really, I shouldn't have, but I was in front of a bookstore, and they called to me, I swear. There was nothing I could do.

Besides, Laurie R. King wrote another book. What's a girl to do when one of her favourite authors writes another book in a series?

Oh, and I finally got around to getting myself some Neil Gaiman novels. American Gods and Stardust. I am a very pleased camper.

In other news, I seem to have grown a life. I'm not sure when this happened, but all of a sudden I'm never home anymore. Combine this with no internet access at work, and you get a total lack of posting from Phnee. Consider me contrite.

I'm mostly settled into the new place, although there's still a disturbing amount of unpacking to do, which, due to the aforementioned life, is going slowly. Let's not even talk about laundry (*sigh*).

The cats freaked out steadily for about a week, but have since come to accept the New Order of Things. All except Pan-Pan, who simply cannot wrap his tiny little feline mind around the concept of Not Being Allowed In Mummy's Bedroom Anymore. I admit I miss my cuddly babies, but the sheer amount of hideously-hard-to-wash laundry they produced is more than enough incentive for me to keep my resolve.

I caved and bought them little toy mice with bells yesterday, and almost didn't give them the toys because George decided to run out into the street and give me a heart attack. Not to mention that I had a dickens of a time getting him back inside. Add to that that this was at eleven o'clock at night, and you get a very irritated Phnee. However, I reasoned that the cats would likely not make the connection between George's escapade and the withholding or giving of toys, and so provided the entertainment anyway. They're very happy with them. I think I'll be finding small cloth mice in unusual places for a long time to come.

I have yet to figure out where [livejournal.com profile] luvenditti's housewarming present is going to live. It needs to go somewhere special, and I think it'll go on the wall facing the front door, but I'm not sure yet.

The Invisible concert rocked. It rocked like a rocking thing, and I should know. I had Sex and Violence stuck in my head for days, alternating on a continuous loop with random other songs, as is my wont, but still. Highlights were panty-throwing, beige pants and slippers, "I'll let you know when I find some!", and the forming of Random Colour.

I am officially the flute-guy and the drummer. It's a dream come true. Now I just have to learn to play the drums.

The Banque Nationale thing is going reasonably well. The job itself is boring, although not entirely soul-sucking yet. The office, sadly, is migraine-producing. Since there are talks in the works of tentatively maybe potentially possibly theoretically making me a permanent employee, if that does happen I'll ask them to turn off the fluorescent lights just above my desk, since I suspect that's a big part of the problem right there. I mean, one migraine a week at Erb was bad enough, but three to four a week? No, no, and no. They're not stress-induced, either. This job isn't high-pressure, like Erb was. It's a completely environmental thing, and thus I can ask that something be done about it. If I leave the job at the end of the week, then there's no point. But if I'm there permanently? Things Are Going To Change.

Luau on Saturday was much fun. Drinking (discovered that Bailey's and chocolate milk is even better than Bailey's and milk, and I so need to have a big-ass bottle of Bailey's in my home just like [livejournal.com profile] sultrysong and [livejournal.com profile] mellybean71) and party games and The Piñata That Wouldn't Die™. Made even more fun by the presence of the Girlfriend (is that the right word by now? What the hell, I'm using it anyway.). Huzzah. Truth or Dare is possibly at its most traumatizing when played drunk at 4am.

Saw lots of people I hadn't seen in a really long time. Caught up with [livejournal.com profile] lightcastle, and met up with [livejournal.com profile] terheyt, whom I knew from elsewhere but had never really seen since the one or two times we had briefly chatted then. I recall there was abortive karaoke, and that's about it. But I now have her on my friends list, and she is in fact a very cool person (and I will carry that story with me to my grave!), and I look forward to getting to know her even better. Yay!

Okay. I'm off to make dinner. Must extricate myself from the cat, who has gone to sleep on my arm in such a way that one of her teeth has sunk deeply into my skin. Owie.
