Due to having my, err, misconceptions brought to light, I'm posting this here. (In other words, I got my ass kicked by t! and the Tough Love Muse, not necessarily in that order, although in retrospect it was a Good Thing™, since it put some things into perspective).

So, yeah. Onto the actual topic. I have decided to change my personal goal for NaNoWriMo. Things aren't working out quite the way I'd hoped, and so, in order to minimize the amount of stressing out I'm going to be doing on this, I'm simply going to take the same goal the Ancient and Nameless Mackayhotep had last year, namely, the goal is simply to do better this year than I did last year. If all goes well, that means 50,000 words. If not, well, it'll still be an improvement.

In other related news, the novel refuses to behave itself. It keeps insisting on going off on tangents in my head, thus not letting me advance at all. Very irritating. Am going to try to beat it into submission this week.

You might find you have an easier time if you let the novel take off in tangents. You can always take irrelavent parts out later, but you'll likely find yourself wandering in interesting directions and coming up with interesting plot threads you wouldn't have seen before.

November is not the time to fight the muse. And I don't mean me.

I wouldn't dream of fighting either of you. I know you can both kick my ass. ^_-

Thanks for the tip. ^_^

Lotta re-evaluating for stress minimalisation going around. That's a good thing.

Excellent. I'll say it again. The word count is arbitrary; the goal of the project is to make a commitment to oneself, a commitment one otherwise might never get around to making.

That's really it.

I will say what I continue to read on the NaNoWriMo site: Quantity, not Quality.

Besides, so long as it is part of the novel you are writing for this mess, then it is all good. =)

I mean, I'm at the 8500 word range right now, two days behind schedule, but I'm still writing as much as i can manage.

Good luck you.
