My Palm Pilot batteries were low, so I changed them. Of course, I didn't realize that that meant that it would wipe out all the information I had carefully stored in it.

I can't back it up on my computer, either, because they're not compatible.

So basically every time I need to change the batteries on this thing, my data's going to be lost.

This sucks. I wrote down some phone numbers in there that I had nowhere else. That'll teach me to depend on technology.

You know what? Technology does *not* make our lives easier. It just makes it more complicated. I should have just listened to myself in the first place and spent the three dollars on another little black book to write things down with a pen like a normal human being.

You should be able to change it within 30 seconds and not lose the data.

Also, how can you not have any way to sync it with your computer?

Thirdly, at least yours works in between. Mine doesn't at all.

my mom had this happen to her and she didn't notice for like a day. my brother-in-law was able to get the information back. if you'd like i could talk to him.

You can't charge the batteries in situ? I thought all of them came with either a charging cradle of an AC adapter...

And I also find it... amazing... that Palm's won't sync with a Mac...

I've (*knock on wood*) never had any problems with lost data on my Pocket PC...

Wow! Look at all those elipses...

No, see, these aren't rechargable batteries, just regular AAA batteries. I have to take them out and replace them with new ones.

Palms do synch with Macs, but this is an older model, and the whatever port it uses just isn't on my iBook, which only has USB ports (and an ethernet port, but that's beside the point).

Grr.

That would rock! Thank you so much. :)

Not according to my Palm Pilot. :P

Also, how can you not have any way to sync it with your computer?

There's no port to plug it into. They just don't fit into each other, is all. Tab A won't got into Slot B.

Thirdly, at least yours works in between. Mine doesn't at all.

In between what? *scratches head*

Odds are high there's an adapter cable available on the marker though for that. There's adapters for nearly everything under the sun out there ~ but even more so for USB ports.

Possibly. I'll have to look into it. It would have been nice to know that it would wipe all my data beforehand, though. :P

Not the end of the world, just annoying.

I'm guessing that it just doesn't work even when fully charged. In between chargings.

Thanks. :)

Technology DOES make our lives easier. It's just that people keep cramming more into their lives as a result instead of enjoying the time saved by the tools. Welcome to workholic North America.

Take, for instance, your standard office. It used to be that you had to have a trained secretary to deal with the volume of typing and paperwork. Now, thanks to the humongous computing power of a standard desktop computer, we can all do it ourselves. So, capitalism cuts corners, saves costs, demands more of its employees. The time that would've been saved is now used for more tasks. I wouldn't know the exact figure, but a single person these days can most likely do several times the work of those 50 years ago.

Besides, it was free, firstly. Secondly, Palm Pilots are as normal as pen and paper now.

Palm Pilots are not *quite* as normal as pen and paper. Maybe in a few more years. Most of the people I know do not own Palm Pilots. Computers, yes, but Palm Pilots, no. They are still a luxury here in North America.

Technology has made our lives more complicated for the exact reason you have cited above. I stand by my statement. :)

I'm grateful for my doctor's gesture in giving me an expensive piece of equipment for free. If I can find an adaptor or something, then it'll work out. I just hope it won't be too expensive. :P

Adapters are cheap. Couple bucks. If you can't eyeball it, take it in to your local Rat Shack (or equivalent) and ask. Asking is free. ;}

Come back and beat them up if they lie to you.

there's nothing that can be done. i'm so sorry! apparently my mom had a synched recently enough, but she did lose some data. i've no idea how you're supposed to change the batteries then.

Well, it's not that alien is my point. Not like, say, flying cars. We have the technology...

My point is that it isn't technology complicating things. It's capitalism and society.

A converter cable/socket/whatever shouldn't be more then $5-10. Stupidly expensive for a such a small thing...
