Sad cat news (not mine, but close enough)

joane and shenlo's Burmese cat, Wumpus, passed away suddenly last night.

I won't go into the details of it here, but they've both written about it here and here respectively if you want to post something supportive. It would be appreciated, I think, if you know them but don't read their journals on a regular basis for whatever reason.

Spent the day with them as (hopefully) moral support, then came home and squished all my cats until they protested and ran away to hide under various pieces of furniture. Practically gave myself a heart attack as I couldn't find George for about ten minutes until I discovered the little bandit had managed to scoot past me into the stairwell, where I'd proceeded to shut him in. He got squished as well.

Losing a pet is, I think, one of the hardest things to bear. Right up there with any other loss, in my books. But then, I've always felt especially attached to my pets. There's something about the uncomplicated affection, the unbreakable bond that forms between master and pet that just can't be duplicated between humans, and not everyone understands that. Those who don't understand it scoff at it, and those who do understand it weep right alongside us when we lose those who've loved us without question for so long.

Godspeed, Wumpus. You'll be missed.
