So on my way to Tai Chi this evening, I passed a gaggle of giggling high school girls. One of whom took it upon herself to say to me: "You're too fat. You shouldn't eat so much!"

I briefly debated whether or not to lecture her on rules of etiquette and on how advertising has brainwashed people into adhering to a fake standard of beauty, etc, etc. I then debated clocking her (did I mention I wanted to hit something earlier this evening?) I was late for class, so I let it go.

Was reminded yet again that in our society, "fat" = "evil."

People say things to overweight people that they would never dream of saying to anyone else. But if you're fat, then you're automatically lazy, lack willpower, are a bad person, whatever.

It's like running headfirst into a brick wall each and every time.

It didn't ruin my evening, but it put a damper on the nice walk I was taking, and it annoyed me. After all, based simply on my appearance, this girl was making assumptions and judgement on my behaviour, on my personality, and on my character. All in the space of less than a minute. That would be bloody impressive, if only it were accurate.

So, to you, Idiot!Girl, wherever you are: WHAT I LOOK LIKE DOES NOT DETERMINE WHO I AM, AND YOU ARE IN NO POSITION TO JUDGE ME SIMPLY ON MY APPEARANCE!
