Because NOTHING has happened this weekend. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero. Nichts. Niente.

I slept ALL weekend. Yessir, I slept again until about half past noon, then went to my mother's place for tea. Then I stayed for dinner, having caught up on all the gossip about her friends (because she seems to have seen all of them in the past 48 hours: I don't know how she does that).

So her friend is now a grandmother and needs hip replacement surgery, her other friend's husband might be resigning from his job, another friend is waiting until the four years are up until she can retire.

Speaking of which, my mother might be going back to China in February, which I think she's secretly rather pleased about it in spite of her complaints about how awful the advertising agency that hired her is. It really is truly awful: they completely and systematically ignored everything she told them from the start, and I haven't decided which is worse —their artwork or their English (which is nearly incomprehensible even to me). Still, it means she'll get paid. I just recommended to her that she seriously cover her ass (which she hadn't thought of doing until I told her... *sigh* My mother is the last of the great naives) and wished her luck.

We watched the end of Independence Day, and killed ourselves laughing at it. Many apologies to those who really liked the movie. My mother was especially fond of the line: "Nuke 'em. Let's nuke the bastards!"

I, on the other hand, was enthralled at the end, when Will Smith's character tells his newly-adopted son: "I promised you we'd have fireworks, didn't I?" Actually, as I pointed out to my mother, would have been more accurate if it had been: "Well, short of fireworks I can offer you the smoking carcasses of our enemies. How does that sound?"

From a human point of view, it was a truly appalling movie. But it was a great deal of fun and a lot of stuff blew up.

And now I'm off to bed. Things to do, people to see, places to go in the AM. Not to mention that I have to go back to work. No more sick leave for Phnee, which was wonderful while it lasted. *wails*

One day I'll have a job I like.
