Open Letter to my Supervisors
Jan. 14th, 2003 09:56 pmDear Arrogant Self-Righteous Pricks,
As you are no doubt fully aware, you called a meeting today in which you informed me of my three day suspension due to the number of times I was late over the past year. We had discussed this eventuality in the past, and I was given to understand that once my suspension was up I was to be given one more trial before you (to put it politely) dismiss me.
Instead, what transpired during the meeting was as follows: you told me that I had clearly not understoon the "critical" nature of my misdeeds. You listed them as being five instances of tardiness (two minutes or less) over the past eleven months and four absences, one of which was due to a management error that you of course have refused to recognise as such.
Granted I was well aware of your "zero tolerance" policy when I was hired. I was, however, under the impression that there were still certain guidelines in place, which you have instead chosen to disregard, even flout, citing the "seriousness" of my case. Under normal circumstances, there is one verbal warning after a transgression, which then progresses to a one day suspension, then a three day suspension, and culminating in five days. In my case you sprang directly from a verbal warning to a three day suspension, which I was willing to accept. However, to coldly inform me that the next transgression will result in my dismissal is not exactly following protocol.
You also informed me that you had taken the decision to monitor the exact times at which I take my breaks, in order to make sure that not only am I taking only the time allotted, but that I am taking it precisely within the time limits allotted and not a minute more or less. You informed me that unless my "adherence" to schedule, as you so eloquently put it, is at 100% or flawless, you will regard this also as grounds for dismissal.
With all due respect, go fuck yourselves.
I have been one of your best employees since March of 2002. I have worked extremely hard to meet all your objectives and then some. If you viewed me as anything other than a number, if you had taken any pains to look at the quality of my work rather than at the numbers crunched out by your inane little time-clocking machine, you would know that I am an overachiever with a capital "A." Yes, that's right, a capital "A."
I have worked countless hours of unpaid overtime for you in order to go that one step further for our clients. I routinely get feedback from clients who call YOU, my dear supervisors, to tell you what a great job I do and how satisfied they were with the way I resolved their problems.
Treat me with a minimum of respect, give me a little leeway in the way I work, and I will work my fingers to the bone for you and show you undying loyalty. I will come in to work extra hours if you ask, I will help out on any project you have in mind. I will put in 150% and love every minute of it. I love challenges. I love hard work.
On the other hand, continue in the vein you have so far (and I have no doubt you will, knowing how bloody narrow-minded and corporate you all are in this fucking firm) and you will breed in me nothing but resentment. Stress me out, and I cease to work efficiently. I stop loving what I'm doing, and then you won't have any of the qualities that made me a good employee to begin with.
So, in light of all this, I have concluded that your job and its perks are not worth the grief. Consider this my one month's notice. I am fucking out of here, whether or not I've found a new job.
Fuck you all,
Love,
Me.
