Hey, I get to review a reviewer! Cool.

Actually, I confess that I was very surprised to learn that [livejournal.com profile] sraphim was only just starting high school. She's demonstrated so much maturity here that I assumed she was older until I read her user info and journal. That's a compliment, btw. ;)

Anyhoo, down to business.

Main: Worth 10 points each
Intelligence: 7/10 [livejournal.com profile] sraphim is obviously an intelligent girl. It comes out well in her writing, although she often just touches on topics which made me wish she'd delve further into them. I think she goes more into detail in her other online journal, but sadly that's not what I'm reviewing here. She's quite witty and inventive with the names she gives to people in her journal (when she's not using their RL names of course), and although it wounds my English-loving soul to hear that she's not enjoying her English class, she at least knows why she doesn't like it. (Personal opinion, it sounds like her teacher isn't all that good).
Then again, I'm not expecting Proustian insight in a girl barely starting high school. She's extremely intelligent and insightful for someone her age, so I can only hope she'll write more in her journal so we can benefit from it.

Emotional Value: 7/10 [livejournal.com profile] sraphim is a highly sensitive and emotional girl, although she does keep herself to herself. Only in a few entries do we truly get a glimpse of what is obviously very real and raw emotion. Her latest posts about her mother are especially moving, although brief. I can understand why she doesn't want to post everything she feels in her LiveJournal, especially as she has a few RL friends who read it whom she doesn't want to injure or offend. She's very attentive to others' feelings, which perhaps prevents her from expressing herself too openly. In fact, she explicitly states that she keeps things "bottled up" in one more revealing entry. I come from the "This is my LiveJournal, if you don't like what you read then bug off" school of thought, so I'd love to see her examine her feelings, or at least the ones she talks about, a little more in depth.

Creativity: 7/10 This is a free account, but a great deal of effort has been put into it. Lots of pictures, all three user pictures are in place (all of her which is just fine by me because I think they're too cute for words). The colours and comments links are customised, although the layout is one of the standard types. There's no real unifying theme, but the journal hangs well together nonetheless. I'm not a firm believer in a journal having to have a theme even if the user doesn't want to.

Individuality: 7/10 [livejournal.com profile] sraphim is well on her way to being an individual. She seems to be more retiring in RL, but online she has a fun, quirky and generous personality. She has her own ideas and is unapologetic about every aspect of her life. In many ways she's typical of girls her age, hates school and Mondays and gym class and her math teacher, has problems with her parents and feels conflicted about one of her good friends, but this doesn't make her any less unique. It's her approach to all these aspects of her life that make her an individual.

Sense of Humor: 8/10 Taking over the world by the liberal use of cake is something of which I definitely approve. [livejournal.com profile] sraphim has a well–developed sense of humour and a keen wit. Of course, not all her entries are funny, nor are they meant to be. After all, not everyone can make jokes all the time, nor should they. It would get boring and meaningless after a while.

Sub Catergories: Worth 5 points each
Bio: 5/5 The bio is one of the best aspects of this journal. It's funny, has a great picture of the user involving lots of cake, and definitely prompted me to go read the rest of the journal. I was almost disappointed when I got to the journal. Almost.

User Pics: 5/5 All three pictures for a free account, all of her, and two of them involve cake. It's all good.

Contactability: 5/5 More messenger services than you can shake a stick at, comments enabled as well as email, and another online journal.

Impression: 3/5 As one of my friends would say, she comes off as a total woobie. Just an absolute sweetheart with a few problems, but who hasn't got those? Maybe a tad stand-offish towards those she doesn't know, but that's understandable.

Style: 3/5 The style is consistent, the writing more than adequate. Nothing spectacular, but the entries flow okay (though the flow is kind of interrupted by frequent lapses in posting).

Openess: 2/5 This is where the journal suffers, I think. It's not that [livejournal.com profile] sraphim doesn't tell us when she's upset or happy or whatever, but she never really lets on why except in the most cursory and/or cryptic fashion.

Grammar: 3/5 Her use of the English language is quite good. A fair number of typos, a couple of spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes (some of them I'm pretty sure was on purpose but it's not made really clear). No annoying net-speak, which is always a plus.

Courtesy: 5/5 A model user. LJ-cuts almost everything, and what she doesn't isn't worth mentioning band-width-wise.

Quantity: 2/5 Erk. I wish I didn't have to give such a low grade. I think she posts a lot in her other journal, but this one has long gaps between posts, from a few days to a few weeks, especially over the summer. The entries vary in length, but are usually short to moderately long. Only a few scattered really long entries.

Bonus: 4/5 For using more than one language and writing enough about music to pique the readers' interest, which is always a good thing.
