Well, here we are on Monday morning, and it's time for a not-so-regularly-scheduled update.

I miss having a computer. I get no newspaper, have no television (even when I had one it got no stations having no antenna so I couldn't watch it), and don't have time to listen to CBC radio in the morning before I leave for work. Mix 96 has the best traffic updates IMHO, so I don't get much other than local news (and is it me, or is the murder and unsolved death rate growing in Montreal lately?), so I feel remarkably disconnected most of the time.

I think I'll start checking out some of the news sites on my breaks. Anyone know of a good one other than CNN.com? I'd like to have a less American-biased one to read as a counter-measure to it.

Anyhoo, the weekend was fun, if not remarkably restful. Friday was spent in a massive rush at work which practically killed those of us who were still at work. They let almost everyone go home early, so forty of us were stuck for three hours with about 50 calls always waiting to be answered with no reprieve. Yowch.

Met up with Firewillow at Indigo, and decided to revisit my old childhood love affair with Madeleine L'Engle. Bought the Time Quartet, which I read until the wee hours of the morning both Friday and Saturday. They're as good as I remember, although a little bit more childish than I recalled, which I suppose is understandable.

Got to Hurley's late (after a vaguely worried call from Poms about whether or not there was a rendez-vous for 7:30) and waited a really really long time for food. Poor firewillow was not in the best of moods by then, and after tanking a Smirnoff Ice she and riverwolf took off home.

The Mahones were great fun, if really loud. For a full review I'll refer you to [livejournal.com profile] rotagar's lj, and also to [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave. And yes, Fiddlegod *is* pretty, and the penny whistle player is really hot in a dark irish kind of way. :)

Well, it got really loud really fast, and by the time fearsclave and I staggered out of there and I dropped him at home I was half-deafened.

Unpleasant part of the evening were the friends of rotagar's brother who arrived, barely gave the rest of us a nod, then literally turned their backs on us and never gave us a second glance for the rest of the evening. Was nonplussed, but whatever. Enjoyed my evening with Poms and rotagar and fearsclave.

Got up reasonably late on Saturday, then toddled off to breakfast/brunch with Poms at Chez Cora on Stanley. They still do a pretty mean breakfast, although the coffee is putrid and this time the eggs were kinda dry. Still, the company more than made up for the lacklustre food.

Poms suggested that Atwater Market would be a good destination to do some shopping, and while it seemed a reasonable idea at the time, in retrospect I must say that it was in fact a splendid idea. I hadn't been there in a dog's age, and I'd forgotten what a lovely place it can be. I bought myself all the ingredients to make a killer chicken pot pie and some strawberries. Poms helped schlep the cat litter, and I had to bite my tongue not to make a silly comment about being really lucky to have "my great big grizzly bear" to do all that heavy lifting for me (that's a reference from "That 70's Show" in case you were wondering). It was still nice not to have to drag it all the way back to the car.

Dropped Poms off at home and zipped back to my place where I found my mother washing my dishes. That's never a good sign, for those of you unfamiliar with my Maternal Unit. Anyway, after "suggesting" coldly that I change the cats' litter (which I was going to do anyway but didn't feel compelled to point out to her), she continued along her usual line of innuendo and let on that it was her humble opinion that I was living in sixteen layers of filth and grime that would be looked upon askance in a Mexican shantytown.

Managed to skirt most of the unpleasantness, luckily, and by the end my mother was complimenting me on how clean my apartment actually was (go figure -it's my mother, I don't expect logic even under the best of circumstances).

All this time, of course, I was waiting to hear from the parents of my godchild, who had invited me for dinner that evening. I left three messages and never heard back from them. Needless to say, I was unthrilled, as I had basically planned my weekend around them.

Then my friend VL cancelled our lunch/tea thing the next day, although at least she had the decency to call and had a really good excuse, i.e. she was sick and this week she has all the report cards of her first-graders to hand in.

Still, was nonplussed at having the two things around which I'd planned my weekend fall through and thus leave me all the time in the world to see Poms, whereas I only got him for a measly two hours or so on Saturday. Blast.

Went "home" with my mother and ended up staying until nearly midnight. We watched Forever Knight and Entertainment Tonight (Whatever Happened to your Favourite Stars?) and topped it off by watching the latest version of Godzilla with Matthew Broderick on Space. Godzilla in name only, of course. Was vastly amusing, and I finally was able to explain to my mother the concept of a B movie.

"Good God! They're radioactive!"

Anyway, much fun was had during a quiet evening. I have discovered that my mother has a taste for really regrettable movies on Space and Showcase, so it's a nice little something I can indulge in with her every now and then.

Slept in blissfully on Sunday, then read "Many Waters" from 12:30 until about 3:00. Meandered off to pick up Firewillow for the Mage game, and found out that her jeep was vandalised on Saturday, which sucked the big one like a massive Hoover.

Slept through church. *slaps self on wrist*

Mage game rocked. Beyond words. Will be updating [livejournal.com profile] blithe_spirit's LJ when I get the chance, if any of you are interested. Was vastly entertaining. [livejournal.com profile] rotagar never showed up, and I suspect his LJ may shed light onto why he didn't (did you enjoy your time in Ottawa, Mike?), although it turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as firewillow and I got a ton of screen time, did some really intense roleplaying, and got a lot of stuff done.

It was fabulous. It's not every day I get a character stranded all by herself in an abandoned Greek village in a horizon realm (or whatever they're called).

Was so revved up when I got home that I couldn't sleep until about 2:30 am. I suspect that may have contributed to my feeling really crappy today. Hopefully will sleep it off tonight.
