Very mild DM envy

I stopped watching CSI in order to catch up on last night's episode of Critical Role, and I am envious of Matt Mercer's incredible ability to instill a sense of urgency in his players. It takes an incredible amount of skill to make your players believe that the stakes are so high that they don't have time to stop and rest, or to even take a few minutes to collect their thoughts. I'm not a very experienced DM, but when I was running a D&D game my players were always determined to stop and take "long rests" practically after every fight, which made things a little difficult to run smoothly. I managed overall, but I love watching Matt run his game, because I get to watch the result of well over 20 years of honing his craft, and while I am super invested in the story and the characters, I also can't help but admire his skill as a DM, too.

I am puppysitting KK's little dog Lidan this weekend. We are all going to have a nice, quiet snuggle. I used to puppysit for him almost every week when we were both still working shifts: he would come home with me during the day when I was working nights and she was working days, because he has pretty bad separation anxiety. Now that she's working elsewhere and working only days and also working from home because of the pandemic, he obviously hasn't been coming over to stay, and I've missed my quality Lidan time.

I'd better conclude this post. Peggy has brought over her squeaky ball for a game of fetch. :)
