Not much to report
May. 4th, 2014 11:41 amI've hit that point mid-work week when all I have going on is work and sleep. It doesn't make for very exciting LJ posts, let me tell you. I don't even have distressing dreams to report today. I did sleep very well last night, though, which was nice. I got to bed just after 21:00, which even though it wasn't ideal, was still earlier than the previous two nights.
Since I'm still carrying that sleep deficit around, you will likely not be surprised to hear that I once again did not manage to drag myself out of bed for 10 minutes of yoga. Tomorrow, though, I have almost a full day before my night shift starts. If I can't find 10 minutes in there, then it's because I'm not really trying. I shouldn't be surprised that I've failed at getting up earlier than 3:50am, especially since I've been getting to bed later than usual on all nights, but still, I'm disappointed in myself.
On the plus side, I was very good last night and went for another walk along the bike path by the train tracks. I listened to the last two current missions of Zombies, Run!, which just keeps getting better. Have I raved about this app yet? I got it two years ago as a present from
fearsclave, and it's just the best thing ever. It's basically an interactive podcast in which you are the star in your very own zombie apocalypse! You go on missions, collect supplies to help rebuild your home in fictional Abel Township, and help to save the world, all while outrunning zombies!
I expected it to be a fun, fluffy little game. Instead, it routinely punches me right in the feels. It has made me cry on more than one occasion, and when I walk after dark the zombie chases/noises are prettyunsettling, I have grown incredibly attached to all the characters, and I can't say enough good things about the writing and the storytelling. Amusing trivia: last year they hired a girl to write for them based on her fanfiction of the app! Her missions were a lot of fun, too. I also have to give them props for including a highly diverse cast of characters, with slightly more women than men, and all racially diverse without resorting to tokenism.
In short, if you're a walker/runner and you're bored with your usual playlists, I can't recommend this enough. It's more expensive than your average app, but it's still less than $10. I have bought every subsequent season since I was given it originally, and it's some of the best money I've ever spent.
You can find the main website here: Zombies, Run!
Anyway, that's my little promo for the day.
On that note, work awaits.
