The joys of working statutory holidays
Jun. 24th, 2009 10:56 amThere are some up sides to working statutory holidays. The first is that I get paid overtime for a shift I'd be doing anyway. The second is that it's invariably quiet on those days.
Unfortunately, I also have to have the same conversation fourteen thousand times.
Caller: "Hi, may I speak to so-and-so?"
Me: "I'm sorry, the section/detachment is closed today due to the statutory holiday. Is there an emergency?"
Caller: "Oh, no. Can I leave a message?"
Me: "I'm afraid this line is for emergencies only, and we are unable to take messages."
Caller: "Oh. Well, I guess I'll call back tomorrow."
Me: "Thank you, and have a nice day!"
