Having one day per weekend makes the weekend go by really fast. I dreamed that my supervisor asked me to come in for overtime next weekend. Sheesh.

I accidentally locked Gretzky outside all night. I feel horribly guilty, but she seems to be none the worse for wear. I went to bed early-ish with a migraine and didn't do a head-count of the cats the way I usually do. She doesn't even harbour any hard feelings, and is curled up next to me on the sofa, purring and accepting pats.

I have to head to the gym in about 15 minutes. I don't feel like going, but it's good for me, so I shall go anyway. None of this "I don't wanna!" anymore. When I get home I shall go back out into the garden. With any luck I'll get the side beds dug out. Tomorrow I will plant the seedlings, 'cause I don't think I'll have time to do it all today.

I have a long week of evening shifts and dentist's appointments ahead of me, and I don't even have Wednesday evening at Hurley's to look forward to, since I'll be working at the time. On the plus side, when I work evening shift, my mornings are usually pretty productive, unlike my evenings when I'm working day shift. I get up with a fair bit of energy to spare, which is more than I can say for when I get home from work and just want to pass out on the chesterfield.

After a weekend of rain, naturally the week is shaping up to be particularly fine in terms of weather. Typical.

All righty. I'm off!

I got a little impatient and decided that instead of digging up the side beds, I would plant my seedlings today. I was also a little paranoid that they would die in their containers overnight. I realize this was improbable, but whatever. Who says paranoia is rational?

So I planted the tomatoes, the lettuce, the green and red peppers, and a strawberry bush. I apparently have more seedlings than I have space, which is a bit sad. This year is all about learning how to manage the garden, though, so next year I will have a better idea of how many things to plant.

If [livejournal.com profile] moonandtree doesn't come by today (he said he might), then tomorrow will be digging up the side beds and planting the herbs I bought. Contrary to the other seedlings, I think I have room for more, but I shall see once the planting is done. If I have time, I will also be setting up the beans and peas and so forth in individual containers on the front porch. If I don't have time, that will go to Thursday. Wednesday is a stupidly busy day involving the dentist, so there won't be any gardening time.

I realized also that I have no garden hose at the back. This will have to be remedied soon.

I am way less depressed about the garden than I was on Friday, or even yesterday. Seeing all the seedlings happily settled has done wonders for my morale, so I don't regret my choice.

[livejournal.com profile] moonandtree helped me with the edge trimmer thing, but I appear to have done something wrong with the cutting line, so maybe next weekend I'll make a concerted attempt to figure out how it works. *sigh* I should probably stick to low-tech tools.

I also have a "spare" bed nearer the house, which I am considering filling with flowers, as I don't think the soil there is deep enough for anything that's not purely decorative. Plus, it'll be pretty! It'll go right next to the peonies.

Added bonus: the cherry tree began to blossom a few days ago. It's very pretty!

I am not usually a superstitious person. That being said, I have had a run of bad luck with regards to things breaking lately.

Last week it was breaking a bunch of dishes when my shelf gave way and tossed a bunch of heavy things onto the floor and counter.

Then on Saturday the cats shattered my full-length mirror.

On Sunday I discovered that the head of my garden rake has come apart from the handle and will need to be screwed/superglued back in.

Then today as I was opening the fridge door to get the wherewithall to make my lunch, my carton of eggs came sailing out of its nest in the door and landed with a sickening crunch! on the floor. Total casualties: seven out of nine eggs were toast.

So, dear Universe, what the hell?

Emru Townsend would have been 40 yesterday.

If you haven't spread the word about bone marrow donation, now's a good time to do it.
