I seethe with generic rage!
Dec. 22nd, 2004 06:13 amGoing to work in a minute. So much work to do, so little time.
We're short five people at work. There's no one to cover for Natalie, who from various reports might be back Thursday, so in the meantime I'm stuck doing both our work, again.
Except that Carol is gone too, which means I have to cover Heather's breaks. (Usually I only cover her morning break, but now I have to do all three in a day, which is an entire hour I don't have.)
Except that Chris and Heather's lunch breaks coincide, partly. Chris is the only one who does part of what I do, when he chooses to do it. Tracing and OS&D.
So on Heather's lunch break, I have to do three jobs at once. It's a nightmare. I can't trace orders or take OS&D's when I'm doing reception. They take too long. However, while I can tell I client that I'll take their information and call them back for the tracing, I can't do that for OS&D. The driver is there now and needs his information now. Oftentimes the clients aren't too thrilled about waiting, either.
"Isn't there someone else I can speak to?"
"No, I'm sorry. There's just me, and I'm covering reception. I'll call you back."
"What about Natalie?"
"She's not here today."
"What about Chris?"
"Gone to lunch."
"What about Ryan?"
"Busy with dispatch."
"No one?"
"No one. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I will call you back as soon as I can."
"Oh."
*click*
In other news, am fetching Gretzky from the vet today. The Nice Vet told me I could take her yesterday, but the other vet decided they needed to keep her an extra night for observation.
Good thing, too, 'cause with the overtime and whatever, I wouldn't have been able to fetch her home. Still, I smell a "how much more money can we milk out of the client?" tactic. The Nice Vet, when I spoke to her, seemed convinced I could take her home because she was doing so well, and then called back ten minutes later all embarrassed and apologetic and said that she'd have to stay overnight after all. *sigh* Oh well.
Two more days.
Am so sleeping in on Friday.
Oh, and for those of you who are interested, that's when I'll be catching up on my two missed installments of Beyond the Pale. I have one almost completely written, and the other should follow pretty naturally, which, if I'm lucky, will conclude The Story Arc That Wouldn't Die.
Off to work now. Am almost late.
