Day was odd. Had long conversation with Maternal Unit over breakfast, mostly her warning me about the nefariousness of the male of our species. She seems convinced that because Poms is so much older (a whopping eight years. Woo.) that he necessarily has the advantage over me, and will want to marry and settle down right away.
Frankly, I'm not convinced. Besides which, it's funny to hear her go on about how I shouldn't limit myself to one guy, that I should take my time to explore and discover other men.
In short, the translation of that is that she doesn't think Poms is good enough for me. More to the point, Poms isn't the kind of man she envisions me being with. I'm not going to bother pointing out to her that I don't see myself ever marrying a European prince.
Had to run to work. Missed the bus again, had to walk some more. Made mental note to buy good walking shoes. The ones I have now are no good at all for long distance walking. No support and really thin soles.
Computer system at work went on blink. We basically did nothing for three and a half hours while the tech department went balistic, had collective conniptions and tried to fix it. Eventually came back on at 3:30 and we were able to take calls again. Sundays are quieter than other days, though. You get a few minutes' leeway between calls, which is nice.
Came home, and am now chatting with Firewillow. Have Evil Plans(tm) in store for her and Bunny.

Your mother was right...
Date: 2002-04-21 03:59 pm (UTC)...we are extremely nefarious :). So much, in fact that I'm personally quite amazed that you guys put up with us. The mess, the smells, the body hair, the puppydog eyes when we want another beer but don't want to get off the sofa... feh.
All things considered, sounds like your mom is being quite reasonable compared to how mine behaved when she found out the Spousal Unit (who's 11 years older than I am) and I were doing the horizontal mambo :). She eventually came around, though, once it became quite apparent that she couldn't do anything about it... but by that time she'd pretty much suceeded in alienating the SU.
You ever see Clueless? Great scene where the father looks the daughter's date up and down and tells him "Get her home by a quarter to eleven or else. I have a shovel and a .45 and I don't think anyone's gonna miss you". Great line that. I want girls, just so that I can use it on their eventual boyfriends :).

Date: 2002-04-21 04:36 pm (UTC)I dunno. Never overestimate the intelligence of the male of the species, especially when they're young and in hormonal overload :).
