I have *no* idea what happened, but my lower eyelid is swollen and rather painful. Doesn't seem infected (not red or anything), but it hurts, and has been hurting since last night. So annoying.

Also, Prison Break ended their first scene on a cliffhanger! ARGH! WHY?!? So annoying. Now I'll have to get the second season just to see what happens.

Has anyone on my flist used zip.ca to rent dvds? I'm curious about how that works and if it's worth it.

The post about the last day of Camel's Hump can be found here, incidentally.

J is a long time subscriber of Zip and loves it.

She has the deluxe package (or whatever you call it) and basically as long as we watch what she gets and send it back, there's always more coming. She plays with her list online to add new stuff, remove things we've seen elsewhere and such.

It's been a good steady source of dvd watching material I have to say.

zip.ca is great if you've got a lot of stuff you want to watch someday (or just always want to have something around that you haven't watched before), but don't really care about the order. You put in a big list of titles and they say they try to send you stuff from your top 10, but we're always getting stuff that we've ranked 20th or something. (Maybe because we have some obscure ones in our top 10 and they only have one copy.) I haven't tried renting more than one disc from a series, so I don't know how they handle that as far as making sure you don't get later episodes before the first ones.

We're paying for the 2-DVD-at-a-time plan, and they occasionally send us a third as well for reasons I don't fully understand (I think it's an extra bonus for watching and then returning them as soon as we get them). So we're not feeling any need to upgrade.

Their service is really prompt. We've twice gotten damaged DVD's, but there's a box you can tick off when returning it saying it was damaged and you'd like the same movie again as a replacement - plus you get another bonus DVD shipped for reporting the damage.

Overall we're really happy with it.

*dies*

Actually, yes I have. I am now slightly sheepish, as it appears to have done no good at all. ;)

That sucks. Hope the eyelid behaves itself soon!

I've never used zip.ca but a bunch of people at work used it regularly and seemed rather satisfied.

I get that eyelid thing occasionally - it's usually a precursor to a stye. Wash your eyelid carefully with gentle soap (or a specially-formulated lid-care soap, if you have such on hand). Don't touch your eye, and put some polysporin or neosporin on it tonight when you go to bed.

Had zip for years, and loved their service, but the discs kept getting stolen in the mail and I kept getting charged for them (which is of course not Zip's fault) and eventually I gave up.

What she said. Plus, zip.ca had a fantastic selection of older movies as well as TV shows. It's also how we became addicted to Buffy, Angel and Firefly. If it wasn't for the mail problem, we'd still be using the service.
