Marmots are good eating if you skim the fat off first, and I wonder what the marmot equivalent of veal is called? A .22 would be ideal were it not for your licensing status and location, but maybe a crossbow?

Air rifle won't work...it will penetrate the skin but won't kill the darn things...and forget about head shots it won't pierce the cranium...it will only slow them down...trust me I know I had to beat one to death after discovering the pellet gun won't kill...I know inhuman but live and learn... to catch and release you can purchase a "Havahart" trap at reno but it's going to set you back 100$ and then you will have to drive the bugger a ways away so he doesn't come back....last summers total catch was 9 and I already have lost a tomatoe plant to one of the rodents....I wish I could borrow your gun and shoot the little Bastards....

Just because you've trapped it humanely doesn't mean that you can't kill and eat it humanely, you know. There are all sorts of recipes on the internet.

We will plant more lettuce, net the garden, and then get rid of the little bugger.

I'm thinking the netting won't work, they'll just mangle it...you may want to try chicken wire and making like a removable top to cover the lettuce they are quite adaptable they ate my cucumbers and herbs last year I'm setting the trap tomorrow...good luck

Ohhh, and if you do trap one place newspaper in the bottom of any trunk you put it in they will urinate and poop like crazy when scared...again learned through experience....

Baron Sports on Hymus in Pointe Claire has some, as would the Baron Sports up on St-Laurent.

The ones at Baron are pretty high-end; sometimes the surplus stores on St-Laurent haev lower-end ones.

On second thought, I have seen the marmot up close, and it looks... sketchy. Like it might have mange. Dunno if that affects the quality of the eatin'...

It looked like that early in the year last year, too. Then later in the summer it looked all sleek & fat. It might be a "surviving the winter and then birthing and feeding the babies" thing; I expect it doesn't leave it's den much until the litter is weaned...
