I think the Brandywines are gone. I'm going to fuss over them a bit this weekend, but if they haven't recovered by Monday I'll have to replace them with others from the market. I am really, really upset about this. :(

It could just be transplant shock *fingers crossed*

I hope so. I'm keeping an eye on them. The stems are still okay-looking, but ALL the leaves have wilted dramatically and have shown no signs of improvement.

*crosses fingers*

We'll see.

I keep telling myself this is a learning experience. Next year I'm *definitely* getting a greenhouse-type thing with lights. I think that the poor plants never got a fighting chance given the temperature and the lack of direct sunlight around here.

*nod* I started my seedlings at the studio, rather than in the apartment, for that exact reason.

Hey, why don't you try to pop out this week and I'll throw some more at you? I got lots, and tomato seedlings don't stockpile for the apocalypse very well :).

Uh... next weekend, maybe? I'll have to see if I can get a car and all that, and the Overtime Fairy has been kicking my ass. This weekend (tomorrow and Sunday) are already toast.

Thanks for the offer! I will let you know. :)

I'll be in Montreal and probably at Phnee's place (or at least upstairs) next Monday (25th). So if you can drop the plants here at some point over the next 10 days, I can get them to her then.

Sounds planlike; I'll be heading up to the range at some point next week and can swing by; it'll most likely be Thursday...

Green stems...but are the leaves kind of blackened and curling up?

I'm thinking frost damage, m'dear...I won't even put my tomatoes out to harden off until after this weekend, and won't plant them until the first week of June. Last year I set them out on our Memorial Day weekend (last weekendish in May) and then we got a killing frost right after and I lost nearly all my plants. Never again!!

No, the leaves aren't black. They just withered and turned pale green/vaguely yellow. No curling, either. Just... flatlining, I guess you could call it.

Next year, I am totally waiting until June before planting tomatoes. Woe. :(

We get a long weekend on or around May 24th, which is traditional "put your tomatoes out" weekend in Montreal. Except that this year due to calendar weirdness the holiday is almost a week early, on May 18th. Montreal is about 2 weeks warmer / earlier than where I am, and we've got frost predicted for overnight Sunday & Monday, so my tomatoes are likely going out sometime around the 27th or 28th of May.

I am totally feeling your pain. All the romas I put in the garden died. I chose not to put the brandywines out because of that, but exactly how am I supposed to get them outside?!? Many condolences.

[livejournal.com profile] raven_albion tells me that the tomatoes ought to be put out to "harden" first, and then should be transplanted in June. I believe I shall try that next year.

The only problem with putting them out to harden off is remembering to take them in again overnight. I always forget at least once.

I forgot to pick up some seedlings! And my grapevine hasn't come back, grrrr. I feel your pain also.

sour milk. i use it on my tomatoes and have never had to deal with disease and they always get really huge.

Oh, thank you! I will try that and see if it either perks up the current tomatoes or helps the new ones grow big and strong. :)

You're welcome. I'm always sad when my plants don't do well.
