I just realized I put together one of my shelves the wrong way on the bookcase, and it's the permanent top one. It's backward, and now it doesn't look nice.

Crap crap crap.

I have no idea how to even begin fixing that. I am quite upset with myself.

I have a bookcase n my study which I somehow managed to assemble with the bottom shelf upside down - pressboard side up :p

At least it is the bottom shelf, and therefore mostly covered with books :P

If you can't figure out how to fix it, you could maybe cover it with a cloth of some kind?

Yeah, that's sort of what happened to me.

I think I will buy a hanging plant and camouflage it. ;)

I also have to go back to IKEA, because I forgot that the BILLY bookcases don't come with enough shelves. Why on Earth would they only supply five shelves for a bookcase which can easily hold six or seven? WHY?

Secret plot to encourage people to buy more really tall books? :V

I am always frustrated that bookshelf design seems to assume, or even insist that most of one's books be coffee-table sized, rather than paperback sized. I want a 15cm deep set of shelves for my paperbacks & trades, but the smallest anyone seems to make is 30cm, which means you loose 15cm of floor space for nothing. It's very, very annoying!

Oh lord - I JUST did this with my awesome utility cabinet for my sewing workshop... except that you assemble the shelf insert as a unit before adding it into the main body, right? So go ahead... guess. Yeah. All six interior shelves are upside down. Luckily they're hidden even when the unit's open and the workshelf is in use. [sigh]

Atermarket veneer, carpenter's glue, vacuum bag and duct tape (note that I only wish I knew about the vacuum bag before one of my projects :P )

I've done that, or something close to it. It's only moderately annoying to fix though. The secret is that it's easy to pry out the backboard and its nails from the shelves, and you only have to do that for the top shelf. Then you have to undo all the screws on one side panel, and the top screws on the other side panel of course, and put it all back together the right way around. It's easier than putting the whole thing together, at least.
