Slept for 13 hours. Apparently I'm not quite as used to the new work schedule as I thought. Since it's obvious I needed it, I didn't fight the early bedtime this week at all. I think I was in bed early on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and by early I mean 19:00 and earlier. Thursday I spent having dinner at the Parental Units' place, and the Maternal Unit made magret de canard, which was delicious.

Now I have to figure out what I want for breakfast. I have no idea how long the eggs have been in my fridge, but if they don't smell of sulfur when I crack 'em open, I guess it'll be okay. I'm thinking omelette, or maybe scrambled eggs. I wish I had bacon, but I guess you can't win 'em all. I have plenty of tasty food that I can use in here.

I'm working night shift this weekend, and evening shift next week, which means an uncomfortable Monday: I'll be finishing work at 06:30 and resuming work at 14:30, which translates to Very Little Sleep for Phnee on that day. The plan today is to spend most of it doing Nothing At All. I might putter, do a bit of cooking, and I have a bit of grocery shopping to do, but nothing major. I won't be sleeping today (see above: thirteen hours of sleep), but I shall take it easy so as not to be a basket case tomorrow.

If you want to know if a raw egg is fresh, see if it floats. If it does, don't use it. I thought I remembered that method, but it's been a long time so I googled for "test for egg freshness" and found "How to test if an egg is fresh"

Thanks!

The eggs, upon being cracked, were definitely not fresh. Not rotten, but certainly not fresh. So, out they went, and I'm getting a small carton today. Every now and then I forget that I don't eat many eggs and I get a large carton, and invariably I stop eating eggs and they sit in the fridge for way too long. :P

When the eggs get to the "almost floating, but one end is touching the bottom" stage, hard boil them. That will give them another week or two of shelf life ;)

No BACON?

A tragedy!

Savant logged 62 hours this week, and did the last 31 around-the-clock (oh, to be that young again!), came home, and slept for 17 hours, and got up only because I threatened direness if he did not.

Seriously, I feel bad for you. Time-shifting like that is not something humans were meant to do. :(

What did your mother do to the duck? And I will remember TaxLady's egg lessons.

You beat me to it. But I hadn't thought about the hard boiling. We go through them pretty fast with my daughter and I both eating them, though the boy will not unless they're baked into something.

Magret de canard is duck breasts. Pan-sear them until brown, then shove them in the oven and bake. I forget the exact temperature and times, but I can ask. :)
