the first d is almost silent, but does still have the effect of making the word 3 syllables.

Can we really trust the word of someone who doesn't like marmite? I think not!

I mean, what's not to love!

Who wouldn't die for a good mouthful of the ritch, black, gooey salty yeast-based substance initially sold as a byproduct of the beer industry!

(by the way, it's only fair that I mention I had never even remotely heard of marmite until dizietsma and his beloved wife explained what the stuff was, a few weeks back. And boy did it sound...er.... lovable. MM-hmm.)
So I say, my friends, stop Marmite detractors! Down with the Marmite oppression!
