Every year I do two New Year's memes. I like to see how my answers evolve and change. :)

:::ETA:::

And every year I managed to either post the years wrong, or at least forget to change the dates. Oops. Fixed now.

:::end ETA:::

What did you do in 2006 that you had never done before?

I wrote a "Floating Admiral" -style play for my birthday.
I wrote forty-two consecutive episodes of my serial in forty-two days.
I took a course in emergency dispatching.
I worked three different jobs.
I wrote 100,000 words in thirty days.
I worked a graveyard shift.
I hosted a housewarming party.
I made and drank lychee punch.
I went to [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter's Canada Day concert.

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I kept some of them. Financially and professionally it ended up not being possible for me to go either to Halifax or to Tulsa. However, I did take that dispatcher course and I'm now in the process of changing careers. I have the potential to make much more money than I was before, along with steady hours and benefits. I've also been sleeping more, on average. So, yay. :)

I shall be making resolutions again this year, though as I've said before (and shall doubtless say again many times), I don't make "resolutions" so much as I like to examine how my life is going around my birthday (which is coming up in about 10 days) and see what needs changing/improving.

Did anyone close to you give birth?

[livejournal.com profile] twilightelisium and [livejournal.com profile] ingenuemuse have both given birth (well, the latter may still be in labour right now).

There's going to be a whackload of 2007 babies, though, that I can tell you. :)

Did anyone close to you die?

Nope. Very glad of that.

What countries did you visit?

*sigh*

There was no travelling this year. Total stick-in-the-mud.

What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?

I'd like to travel, but since I won't be getting any paid vacation time from work, I don't see that happening.

I would like to get rid of my remaining debt by March. That would be really nice.

I would like to be in really good physical shape by the end of the year, and in decent shape by the time summer comes around

I would like to work up the nerve to ask out this girl I know.

I would like to put a decent chunk of money aside for a rainy day.

What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

I'm very bad with dates. I remember events, but not specific dates. Feelings, emotions, people, but not dates. Also, "etched" is a pretty strong word. Let's just say these seem to me right now to be important dates from this year. Let me think.

January 28th: the second annual Capricornucopia
February 17th: I fall on the ice and break my arm the night before my emergency dispatch class is meant to start.
February 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th: I take and pass an emergency dispatch course.
April 22nd: Invisible & Random Colour in concert!
April 29th: [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave and Carolyn get married.
May 13th: [livejournal.com profile] baronscartop and [livejournal.com profile] ai731 get married.
May 18th: I get a threatening phone call from Bell, and find out that my "automatic withdrawals" haven't been made for 18 months. Several months of financial suck ensue.
August 5th: Bea and Yan get married.
August 12th: haus war ming!
August 28th: I get rid of the Huge Damn Financial Albatross (aka the car)
August 28th: I start work at Dial-A-Husband
October 12th: Tarasmas
October 20th: I'm laid off from Dial-a-Husband
November 1st and November 30th: Beginning and end of NaNoWriMo.
December 3rd: I start work at Boomerang Tracking.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I changed careers. That's pretty big. I also wrote 100,000 words in 30 days.

What was your biggest failure?

I was pretty much a financial wreck this year, in spite of my best efforts.

What was the best thing you bought?

Erm... oh! I know! I bought all four seasons of The Pretender. That was pretty cool.

Did you suffer illness or injury?

I broke my elbow in February. There were the usual migraines and two colds, and one Martian Death Flu in October. Otherwise, nothing to report.

Whose behavior merited celebration?

My friends' especially. Have I mentioned lately that y'all are awesome? Also, my parents', who have gone to bat for me every time I needed it.

Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

A whole bunch of various politicians', a couple of people I won't bother mentioning here.

Where did most of your money go?

Rent, car, debt. Blick.

What did you get really, really excited about?

My friends, my writing, emergency dispatching, dancing, weddings.

What song will always remind you of 2006?

"It's The End Of The World As We Know It," by R.E.M.

Compared to this time last year, are you:

Happier or sadder? Happier. Definitely.

Thinner or fatter? About 10lbs thinner.

Richer or poorer? Richer.

How did you spend Christmas?

With family and friends, as always.

Did you fall in love in 2006?

Not really, no.

How many 1-night stands?

Bwahahahaaaaaa!

...

Seriously. You have to ask?

What was your favourite TV program?

Lessee. Didn't watch all that much this year.

24, The Pretender, Deadwood, Babylon 5... that's all I watched with any kind of regularity (on DVD mostly).

What was the best book you read?

I hate this question. [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter introduced me to Elizabeth Peters and Carol Nelson Douglas this year, and I've gobbled them up like popcorn. Fred Vargas was a nice discovery, too.

What was your greatest musical discovery?

Erm... discovery? I dunno. I finally got around to buying some R.E.M. CDs, does that count?

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Nope. No hating. Don't have the energy for that.

What did you want and get?

A new job. Two of them, in fact.

A number of things that aren't really quantifiable.

What did you want and not get?

Financial security.

A number of things that aren’t really quantifiable.

What was your favourite film of this year?

"Bon Cop Bad Cop" wins this, hands down. It rocked hardcore.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I turned 27 and celebrated by having dinner with my parents. They bought a cake. :)

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

A more substantial paycheque would have helped a great deal. *shrug* What can you do?

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?

I still don't have a concept. I have my "grown-up costume" for work, and the rest of the time I hang out in jeans or corduroys and a sweater (I invested in a few hoodies this year).

Oh, and colourful socks. Rainbow socks, in fact.

What kept you sane?

My friends. Rainbow socks. Playing music. Torturing my cats by cuddling them when they didn't want it.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Not really my thing. The new James Bond is pretty awesome, though.

What political issue stirred you the most?

Non-compliance with Kyoto.

Who did you miss?

[livejournal.com profile] joane and [livejournal.com profile] shenlo and [livejournal.com profile] rowen26, but luckily I got to see them all over Christmas, so yay! [livejournal.com profile] whiskeygirl8, [livejournal.com profile] prolixfootle.

Who was the best new person you met?

New? New new? A bunch of people from NaNoWriMo, which is why I like that event so muc.

[livejournal.com profile] tcaptain springs to mind. [livejournal.com profile] the_adzo too, although we knew each other from before, this year is the first time we actually interacted as something other than "that person I see at other people's parties."

I'm sure I'm forgetting others because it feels already as though I've known them forever.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006.

Aim high. Take risks. When you jump, jump with your eyes open.

Metaphorical baseball bats make all the difference sometimes.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

"It's the end of the world as we know it
And I feel fine!"

-R.E.M.

1) This will be 2007 coming up. If you're doing a retrospective, the year would be 2006, not 2005.

2) You more than one person hatching a child in 2006, but you didn't put the other one's name in.

I do this every year. Serves me right for copy-pasting. ;)

The unmentioned person is there, I'm quite sure. Must be an html mistake. Thanks!

And more, if you count mentions of band, weddings, and friends which don't name names. ;)
