:::crash, clatter, rattle:::

I do believe it was. :D

Or, as [livejournal.com profile] forthright would put it: "Oh, Stephen Harper, you clod!"

Okay, it's probably not a secret that I'm not a fan of the not-so-charismatic leader of the Conservative Party. However, I leave it up to you to read this text of a speech he gave to a right-wing US think tank back in 1997 and make up your own minds.

If you think he's full of shit, by all means propagate the link in your blogs. After all, the more people see this, the better.

Heck, if you agree with the sentiment, pass it along. After all, the more people see this, the better.

It's not as dire as the Liberal Party is making it out to be, but it's still pretty appalling, IMNSHO. And, as [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave said, it does open him up to accusations of having a concealed extreme right-wing agenda, regardless of whether it's true.

The lesson is this, boys and girls: it's not a good idea to make unguarded extremist statements at any time if you're in politics. They will come back to bite you on the ass. I'm looking forward to seeing the Conservatives skate around on this one.

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave.

Oh, absolutely people change. Unfortunately, I don't think Harper has changed for the better in eight years.

Also, aren't you concerned that Harper thinks you're going to spend your child-support money on beer and popcorn? ;)

I'm going to be taking a better look at the Green platform myself. Usually I lean very much to the NDP, but that's because I was never in ridings where there was a green candidate. I believe that I may actually have one this time around. :)

No, it's the Liberals that are concerned that I'll spend my money on beer and popcorn, because, you know, parents can't handle the responsibility of caring for their children. Harper doesn't give a rat's ass if I spend the money on something other than child care -- and I consider it as "Additional Family Revenue" and it's money that will be spent on family things. I'm paying for daycare anyways, so that additional hundred a month will make the load that much less. I have a post in the making about the whole politics and daycare thing, so I'll keep my ranting to that ;)

Last election, the Greens made it a point to have a candidate in every single riding, so expect the same this time around.

Right, the Liberals. My bad. It's so hard to keep who's-saying-what-idiotic-thing straight nowadays. There are so many of them. :P

I shall be looking for the green candidate this time around. Last time I voted NDP, because hey, that's what I do. :)

I'm looking forward to your post. It ought to be interesting, to say the least.

Right, the Liberals. My bad.

Oh, for God's sake.

Are you actually paying attention to the campaign, or are you just determined to oppose the Conservatives no matter what happens? How could you possibly miss that it was a Liberal who made the "beer-and-popcorn" remark? The same one, I will add, who reputedly said that "Alberta can blow me".

Sorry, but this really irritates me.

I am, actually. But, see, I'm trying to pay attention to the actual content (however little they may be), and so the meaningless sound-bites that translate into stupidness don't really register with me.

Honestly, that quote could have come from any number of idiots, either Liberal or Conservative, and it wouldn't have made a difference which party said it: it's still blisteringly idiotic.

"however little there may be" is what I meant to say. Gah. English is hard. :P

No. It could only have been said by a Liberal.

That's the whole point.
