"Take me where I cannot stand..."
Sep. 6th, 2005 10:42 amI’ve had the Firefly theme song stuck in my head since yesterday. Helps, of course, that I caught the tail end of the Firefly marathon on the Space channel when I went to visit my mother. I’d forgotten just how good that show is.
"Now I’m learning about scary!"
Heh.
Spent a very agreeable Labour Day Weekend. Went up to Alexandria on Saturday and spent most of the day with
looking4wings who is, as
fearsclave would say, a pearl among women. I bent her ear for something like seven hours, and she never complained once. We also made the tricky part of my Sooper Sekrit Costume (TM) for
sandman7’s birthday party this weekend. I have to buy the rest of what I’ll need this week, supposing I ever get paid, but that’s a rant for a different post.
fearsclave staggered over to see us twice, once for purely social purposes, the other time to partake in pizza with us. He was looking more than a little green around the gills, having been burning the candle at both ends in a laudable, if regrettable, effort to save on gas (money and the environment all in one go). He lent me a gazillion books on Stalwart English Gentlemen (TM) doing Very Stupid Things (TM) in the name of exploration. I have one or two books to finish reading before I get to them, but I’m excited already. Okay, more like five books, but who’s counting?
Got home and was too revved up to sleep, so I watched Silverado, which rocked like a rocking thing (and I should know). That has got to be one of the best Westerns I’ve ever seen, except for the Spaghetti Westerns, which shall forever be my favourites. This is the only movie in which I’ve ever seen Kevin Kostner actually act, which is saying something. I’ve never liked him since Dances With Boredom, although he is pretty, I’ll give him that. In this movie, they managed to get him to act, and his character is like a big excitable puppy. It was great. And everyone is in this movie, from Kevin Kline to Linda Hunt to Brian Dennehey to John Cleese. Not to mention that the director cheerfully embraced every single Western stereotype he could think of. Good times.
Spent Sunday with
luvenditti. Saw the new Terry Gilliam flick, whose exact title escapes me right now. Is it Grimm, or Brothers Grimm? Or something else? Not serious. Was very amusing. I laughed very, very hard, and it made me want to go home and write fairy tales. Matt Damon wasn’t all that convincing, which was sad, because usually I like his acting, but he did manage a pretty good British accent (too bad that he was playing a German).
Had dinner with
luvenditti’s family, and met her sister J for the first time, along with J’s boyfriend B. Her sister A was there as well, and I was very amused at the family dynamic there. I always forget that families who don’t have only children are a great deal more vocal than mine, and a good deal more relaxed about how they behave with each other. Good times were had by all, I think. I hope I didn’t come off as too standoffish –I’m not very good with large groups of people I don’t know. They’re very nice.
Re-watched Silverado with
luvenditti. She agreed with my assessment of the movie.
Did some cleaning yesterday. In fact, I did a lot of cleaning. Also, I partially rearranged my bookcase, found some books belonging to
baronscartop and
ai731 that I’d forgotten I had. Returned them promptly, as they now both live downstairs. Convenient, that. So convenient, that I shall try to borrow the DVDs of 24 at the next opportunity. I’ve been meaning to watch that show for ages.
I am all kinds of excited about the new season of House. I’ve managed to catch about six episodes, and damn is that show good. I may have to make up excuses to have dinner with my parents every Tuesday. *cough*
Also, I saw last night that the DVDs of Lost have come out. When work decides to pay me (again, a rant for a different post), I may have to go check out prices. Then again, there are many thing out there deserving of my hard-earned cash, most of them books, CDs or DVDs. Choices, choices. *shakes head*
Okay, I think that just about sums up my weekend. More later, maybe.
