*curls up into a ball*
May. 31st, 2005 07:36 amSunday was my day for staying home and not moving. I think it was overdue. I've been doing altogether too much running around and not enough sleeping. I didn't get much sleep on Sunday, but at least I rested, so that was okay.
I'm still getting just enough sleep, so that's okay too.
Brunch was fun. Got to see
swestrup for the second time since January, and met
taxlady for the first time. Caught up with
foi_nefaste, and
sorceror who seems to have come down with a particularly nasty case of tonsillitis (*sends soup vibes*), and caught a glimpse of
the_lich and
joenotcharles who both came late and whom I didn't really get to talk to because I was flying off to band practice by then.
Spent Saturday afternoon with
random_colour, which was, as usual, a neat mixture of fun and frustration as some songs worked amazingly well and others really didn't work at all. We realized how heavily we relied on the bass for one song (our bass player was out of town until yesterday), and nailed another song completely, amidst cheering and patting ourselves on the back.
I keep reminding myself that I only picked up a pair of drumsticks for the first time on April 17th. That I therefore don't suck, and am not holding back the entire band and that they don't all hate me and think that they'd be better off with someone else. Some days it's easier than others.
Saturday night was spent at my parents' place. I was completely, but I mean completely out of spoons, and told them so, and for once they understood, and let me pass out on their sofa and watch television. I called it "companionship by osmosis" as a joke, and they seemed amused by the concept. I watched bits of Lost and Stargate and The Dead Zone and The Sixth Sense (and finally understood that that movie isn't about the twist ending, and cried very hard at the end).
Sunday was the whole "replenish spoons" thing, and I was much better off for it. Spent all day resting and writing posts for Bluebook. Yay spam!
Spent most of Monday in a pleasant daze, until band practice. We practiced until we were cross-eyed, but I for one really needed it. That song that I mentioned before? The one that didn't work at all? That's mostly because yours truly couldn't get the damned intro right. Yes, there were other glitches, but mostly, I couldn't get the tempo right, couldn't get my timing down, etc. So everyone else was very forbearing, very patient, and we did it over, and over, and over, and over, and over, until I was able to reproduce something akin to right on a reasonably regular basis. We'll see if I can do it again next practice.
The gig is in less than two weeks. It's what
toughlovemuse called the Thing We Cannot See Past, and I'm inclined to agree. It's the Thing That Ties Knots In My Stomach. I have pretty evil stage fright as a rule, even when I've been practicing my concert pieces for months ahead of time on a musical instrument with which I'm really familiar (I was always told I had a tremolo in my flute and recorder playing, because my breath shook as a result of natural nervousness). I just hope I don't drop a drumstick in the middle of a set or something.
Anyway, that's the news of this weekend, accompanied by a bonus wibble. Lucky you!
