I've noticed that the more I develop a life, the less time I have to actually chronicle it in LJ. It's really quite frustrating.

Why was I only able to write long posts when I really had nothing to talk about? I worried before that people would die of boredom from reading my entries, but now there aren't even boring entries to read.

I spent most of yesterday afternoon cleaning up the apartment. I'm nowhere near where I want it to be, but it's still a vast improvement over before. There was a moment when I blinked, and suddenly I was knee-deep in cat hair, so I decided to do something about it. I have only just managed to beat back the grimy foe into the living room, but the dining room and kitchen are clean.

I went with my mother to Atwater Market to get cheese in the morning. Atwater Market is one of those places in Montreal that I keep meaning to write about in detail, because it deserves a post to itself. It's an open-air market, and has been around for as long as I can remember, although it has undergone many changes in its look and in the type of clientele it attracts. I want to go back sometime this week so I can buy fruit and cheese and other good things. I had to physically restrain myself from buying all the delicious-looking maple products they had on display. *sigh*

My mother's off to Toronto to visit a friend who will be leaving the country to go live in Europe. Hence the cheese. It's meant to be a present. Atwater Market has a kick-ass cheese store. There was somewhere I wanted to go with this bit of information (about my mother, not the cheese store), but it seems unfair to relegate something of this magnitude to a paragraph in a "general update" post. Maybe one day I'll work up the nerve to write it at the same time as I actually have the time to write. Maybe.

Saturday was lovely. Brunch with [livejournal.com profile] miseri and [livejournal.com profile] the_lich and [livejournal.com profile] terheyt showed up with her boy and a girl named Sam, which made for a fun, if different dynamic than the usual suspects. Since I was procrastinating about cleaning my apartment, I then went for further caffeination with [livejournal.com profile] miseri and [livejournal.com profile] the_lich, and after that dragged them to ogle the beads in a nearby sewing supplies shop.

We met the sweetest little African Grey Parrot there, name Richard. Richard had a hard life, apparently: only nine years old, he'd had three owners already and had been mauled by a dog. He looked wonderful, though. No signs of the plucking of feathers usually associated with stress in birds, and he surveyed us all with an equal mix of curiosity, equanimity, and natural caution. After all, he had no idea whether we were likely to try to grab him, or if we were just being friendly. Birds don't like being pawed at by people they don' t know, not that I can blame them.

Watched the series premiere and subsequent episode of Grey's Anatomy on ABC, decided it was a cross between ER and Gilmore Girls both of which I like for different reasons, and so I have decided to like it for the moment. There's also a very vague impression of Scrubs which is fantastically funny. What is it about having main female protagonists be all wibbly and wishy-washy and uncertain all the time? However, the characters are cute, and I can already see the slash fandoms preparing their best squeeing.

I haven't been writing about my dancing all that much, either, although I'm still having the time of my life doing it. [livejournal.com profile] miseri has taken to accompanying me a few times a month, too.

Then there's all the projects I've become involved with, thus far only peripherally. The fishing, the quilting, the beading... and others I can't think of offhand. All these things that I've started and am probably not going to finish right away, but that I still want to write about and document and all sorts of exciting other stuff.

I've discovered that I'm like a project butterfly. I waft from one to the next and come back to them when I feel like it. I'm a freaking dilettante, but I love each one as much as the next, and feel very passionately about what I do while I'm doing it. I do things in fits and starts, and for the moment it seems to suit me. I don't have the same single-minded devotion to a craft that I've seen some people have (*cough* [livejournal.com profile] fearsclave *cough*).

Actually, the one constant up until last summer was LJ. I used to update almost daily, sometimes several times a day. At one point I was updating consistently several times a day. Now it's all I can do to keep up with my friends list. I have to figure out how to devote time to all the things I want to do and still keep a regular sleep schedule. Ack! Too many projects!

I think this is about as long as I want this post to get. I won't be offended if you didn't make it this far. ;)

I haven't seen Grey's Anatomy, not sure if I will get around to it. I've watched Scrubs before, though, and it's hilarious. Not to mention, I know someone wrapping up residency and all that. :)
