I made it through the longest night, and then realized that I had to do my Christmas shopping. Went out and did that, and then treated myself to a showing of Quantum of Solace which was both better and worse than the last Bond movie.
I loved that they finally gave Dame Judi Dench an actual part to play, with real lines and real conflict, and wrote it for her. Best part of the movie, for sure, although it was a bit shaky at times.
I like the new Bond, despite his apparently unsophisticated past. He still gets in some good one-liners, is far more believable physically than good ol' Pierce, who always looked as though he might break in two at any moment, and pulls off the charm quite well.
The rest? Enh. At least they're not doing weird sci-fi-esque villains anymore. The bad guy wasn't all that villainous (I way preferred the villain from the last movie), but he was certainly a bad guy. The action sequences almost ruined the movie for me. There were SO MANY of them, and they were ALL filmed in this stomach-turning, jolting-camera style: CONFUSO-VISION!
I had fun, which is the main part. They went off-script a bit with the Bond Girls (he only sleeps with one!), but it made sense for the story, and I actually liked what they did there.
So overall a good time. You don't need to see this on the big screen though, if you're considering going and haven't decided yet. Wait for the DVD.
