Stick a fork in me, I'm done.
Nat is insane. In a good way, but insane. The girl works like a madwoman, and never, ever stops. Not even for lunch. Never mind her other breaks. That means I practically never stop either, although I *did* have lunch. I do have to draw the line somewhere, after all.
I'm actually learning to do my job now. This is definitely a Good Thing™. Am still reserving my judgment on our supervisor, but I have a feeling I can't expect too much backup from him on anything.
I think I'm going to like this job. I'm not certain yet, because I'm only seeing about half of what I'm going to be doing right now, since the other half of what I'm going to learn won't happen until the other person who's supposed to train me gets back from her vacation in about ten days' time.
At least this is a job that's going to allow me to be pretty much independent and, best of all, wont involve sales. Yay! Anything that doesn't make me sell stuff makes me happy.
I'm very much the "new girl" in the office. Everyone else has been working there for at least five years, most of them for ten or more, some of them for twenty years and over. Still, they all seem to at least be tolerating my presence. One of them asked me if I was going to be permanent, or if they were "renting" me from Thompson Tremblay. I was amused.
On the plus side, I scored some brownie points yesterday by solving a riddle that had two of their offices stumped (it was circulating by their "QuickMessage" system):
Maker doesn't want it.
Buyer doesn't use it.
User doesn't see it.
What is it?
( Answer behind the cut! )
I was quite pleased with myself, as normally I suck at riddles. :D
Anyway, I'm learning to work my way around the office, and I have tamed both photocopiers and even the dreaded photocopier/fax machine, although I learned to my dismay today that it has more functions that I didn't know about programmed into it that I'll have to learn. Woe! ^_- I also learned to change the toner cartridge in the photocopier/fax. Rar!
So I've been filling out forms like they've been going out of style, and rediscovering the dubious joys of spending lots of time on the phone. Sobeys is annoying, for the record, and their automated phone system even more so. I hope that woman calls me back tomorrow so I don't have to call her instead. :P
I now have chipped maybe enough ice off the tip of the iceberg to make myself a small smoothie.
However, I somehow avoided the evening rush hour traffic (mostly) and got home without having to sit in stalled traffic for an hour like I did on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rar, I say!
Now, I think some form of dinner is in order.
...
Wow.
It just occurred to me that, for the first time in A YEAR, I will be getting paid for four consecutive days of work. Not quite the same deceptively-breathtaking amounts that four days' worth of translating would get me, but still... actual salaried work. O_O
Having a moment, here, folks. ^_^
P. S.
avren, I should be able to get back to you on that translation by tomorrow in the evening. Is that too late?
