Ooooh, I adore codeine. Enjoy :)

Codeine is lovely. Did you see a doctor?

Should she need to?

So very few ask that question. Having demonstrated the ability to read and write I think [livejournal.com profile] mousme is competent enough to read and understand usage instructions for any drug she may require.

Codeine's prescription-only in Canada, so one would assume the answer to both questions would be 'yes.'

Not so...anything above 8 mg Codeine requires a prescription. One can acquire ACC (acetominophen, caffeine and codeine) or 222s (aspirin, caffeine and codeine) over the counter, at least in Ontario. Tylenol 3s have 30 mg Codeine each and therefore requires a prescription.

It sounds like you are making assumptions.

I was merely curious about whether or not she had been to the doctor.

AC&C is over the counter in Quebec as well (It can mean ASA, codeine, and caffeine). You do have to ask and they take your name.

I was kinda wondering if she had a 'script for the "good stuff" ;)

I did in fact go to see a doctor, and I have me a bottle full of the "good stuff." Depressingly, it has not made the pain go away entirely. Still, I am in a *way* better mood than before! :D

The answer to both questions is indeed 'yes' in this instance. I can has painkillers of doom!

Yep, except for drugs for which I need a prescription, such as getting large doses of codeine.

And so what did you do to the shoulder?

From: [identity profile] mousme.livejournal.com
As far as the doctor could tell, I have strained the tendons in in my neck that connect to the shoulder, and probably some of the muscles there too. The shoulder itself is fine, which is good news. The verdict is painkillers, anti-inflammatories, and no shenanigans for at least a week. *sigh* I LIKE shenanigans.

I was going to warn you about the funny voices in your head and the paranoia . . . but then remembered that that comes with morphine, not codeine!

Get better soon.

Yeah, to be honest, I know what you meant. It was more her entry iself upon which I was commenting — it sounds like the reaction of some third-world kid who has never had more than one bowl of soup at a time being treated to dinner in a fancy restaraunt — gratitude for a magnanimous dispensation. I was looking for an opening to ask "What's wrong with this picture?" Adults should not have to beg for medication and get permission slips from state licensed monopolists to medicate themselves.

I doubt that you'd have trouble with the doseage labeling on a bottle of codeine. My point was that adults don't need a presciption. Getting advice from a doctor is one thing; requiring a permission slip to medicate oneself is quite another.

So you believe that just because a pack of politicians set doctors and pharmacists up with lucrative little monopolies it means that people are too ignorant to medicate themselves and buy their own medicine?

No, I believe that Daphne is not the sort to buy drugs in an illegal fashion, especially considering her employer. So since the drugs she is taking this week are prescription-only, I believe that she both was required to and did see a doctor in order to obtain them.

Don't put words into my mouth, please.

Ah, but I didn't put words in your mouth. I asked you a question about an assumption you freely admit to making. You assume the answer to my question is "yes" but I asked "should she need to", not "is it legally required that". You answered "yes" to the question. My follow-up was merely to ascertain if you were answering the question I actually asked. Your clarification about the legal propriety of Phnee's actions indicates that you weren't answering the question I asked.

montecristo: The words you were looking for are: Get. Well. Soon.

Everyone else: Do not feed the troll. Please.

This is not an invitation for pre-programmed rant #387. I will not respond.

I completely misunderstood your comment. I agree that the government is far too paternalistic in its attitude about Rx drugs.

Actually, I knew from previous posts that [livejournal.com profile] mousme was having severe shoulder pain, so I was hoping she had been to the doctor about the shoulder.
