I think I'm in trouble...

Okay, my shoulder has gone from really really painful to excruciating, all in a matter of hours. The only position that's remotely tolerable is sitting upright, or standing, and even then it hurts like hell after a few minutes. Sitting or lying back is like having someone jab a knife through my neck and twist it around for good measure, so sleeping is not exactly happening right now. Every time I shift position on my bed it makes me want to scream, and usually that only happens with the very worst of my migraines. I actually have a pretty high pain tolerance threshold, overall.

I am seriously contemplating the ER if the pain doesn't abate soon, which ought to tell you something. I've thrown a lot of painkillers at this, complete with a hot compress, and so far there's been diddly squat. Robaxacet Platinum helped earlier, but now seems to no longer be effective. Yes, I know my doctor would disapprove of this many painkillers at the same time, but right now I don't care, I just want it to stop hurting!

Gah.

The timing on this is terrible. I was going to go apple picking tomorrow, and on Sunday I was going to knit. I don't see either of those two things happening now, since I can't so much as turn my head.

Part of me is suggesting the vodka in the freezer, but I know that's a bad idea on top of all the painkillers. [whine] Make it stop! [/whine]

If you're in the acute stages of an injury, you should use cold. Don't use hot. It increases swelling.

Yeah, that would be a much healthier use for the vodka in the freezer, keep it in the bottle and apply it to the sore spot...

Seconded. Injuries call for cold; heat is for alleviating muscular tension.
