I missed going to [livejournal.com profile] owldaughter and [livejournal.com profile] ashforestwalker's post-Christmas thing today, because I lapsed into a coma upon getting home and didn't awaken until 20:30.

*sigh*

I guess I needed the sleep, but I've seen so little of my friends this month that it's pretty disappointing overall. I hear the weather wreaked havoc with people's plans today, too. The roads were already pretty treacherous when I walked home at 07:00, but I thought it would get better and not worse. Would you believe that I'm still tired after 12 hours of sleep?

The good news is that my friend from high school, Alex, is in town for the holidays! He lives in London, now, and I haven't seen him in over a year and a half! It'll be great to catch up. We're having coffee tomorrow afternoon.

The other good news is that I may be getting a futon on Monday! Plans are not concrete yet, but [livejournal.com profile] kino_kid is giving me her old futon, and so I may actually have room for people to sit until I get a sofa! Then the futon will be going in the basement and serving as a guest bed and place to sit when I do my crafts. I'm very excited!

Tomorrow morning I'm going to be doing some cleaning. I haven't touched this place properly in about two weeks, and things are starting to pile up: laundry, tidying, dishes... bleah. Still, it must be done. My cleaning lady should be coming this Wednesday, but I'm not sure about that because it's December 31st, so she might be coming the week after. It's a mystery. It would be great if she does come, though, because I'm having guests the next day, and so having the place clean(er) would be a huge bonus.

Another of my colleagues has called in sick (the one I mentioned in a recent entry). Apparently it's not a cold, he has done something to his back. I have more sympathy for that, but am not convinced that it's entirely real. I really hope they don't call me in for overtime on Monday. I have plans on Monday, dagnabbit!

I may actually refuse. I had a talk with Efficient!Supervisor yesterday (who was replacing my sick coworker), who said that they could force us to do overtime, but not to come in for overtime: they can force us to stay if we're already there, and if we leave before we're relieved, then we get fired for dereliction of duty and abandoning our post. Good to know.

We have a n00b coming in toward mid-January, and according to Efficient!Supervisor we should be getting an influx of n00bs in the spring. It's going to be a rough few months, because even when the n00bs get there they still have to be trained, and that's going to be complicated. We'll manage, though: we always do. It'll be nice to have time freed up for things other than work.

We're breaking in a couple of n00bs right now. As a matter of course, I dislike being an FTO. The person being trained either makes it or breaks it.

We're pretty much the same on overtime; if you're here they can force you to stay, but we can't work more than 16 out of any 24 hours. If you're not here, they can beg and plead for you to come in, but if you're unreachable... then they can't force you. :)

I make it a point to be unreachable.
